February 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Just some things to be wary of with Muhsin; In 2002 he only had 63 receptions and 2003 only 54 receptions. Last year he really found a comfort zone with Jake Delhomme however, but it took at least a season to get that to work. So I don't know if he'll have major instant success, but Grossman has a big go to guy in the end zone now, which is what the Bears DESPERATELY needed. He's 31 at the moment, probably be about 34 since it's a multi-year deal when it's up, can he keep producing at that age? Still I think it's a great signing though, and the Bears shouldn't pull away from drafting a WR just beacuse they sign Muhammed. Edwards or Mike Williams could provide more in the long run than Benson or Williams, if Lovie Smith goes with a pass happy offense. His decline mostly coincided with Steve Smith's emergence, so I don't think this is much of a concern. I'm pretty happy about this, good work by the Bears. (I was hoping for Coles, somehow, but that never seemed very likely.) Whoever they take in the draft, this is a good move. It keeps them from drafting for need, they can go strictly for the best player, wr or not.
February 26, 200521 yr Great signing for the Bears. I was hoping the Chiefs would try to go after him, but they need Law more. I doubt that one will happen either.
February 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) Great signing for the Bears. I was hoping the Chiefs would try to go after him, but they need Law more. I doubt that one will happen either. William you'd definitely know more about the Chiefs than me, do they have the cap room to acquire Woodson from the Raiders, even though it's highly unlikely the Raiders would trade within their own division.
February 26, 200521 yr The Chiefs are only like 4.5 million under the cap, and that's not with releasing anyone either. I mean, at least they're under the cap, but not by much so I don't know if they could get a trade for Woodson even if the Raiders wanted to trade with the Chiefs.
February 26, 200521 yr I'd like it if he traded the pick to get 2 first rounders and go for quanity, not quality. When I first saw this, I was amazed, I didn't think anyone would want to come here to help us. This probably could be one of many moves that occur this off-season. How much money do we have remaining? I know there's a salary cap in the NFL. I'd say we need 1-2 more lineman, and more play makers. Was Jones consistent last year? I didn't remember.
February 26, 200521 yr Wow, awesome signing for the bears. WR was our biggest need and angelo came up w/ a proven player
February 26, 200521 yr Sweet deal. I thought it was just a pipedream to get a Pro Bowl Wide Reciever here.
February 26, 200521 yr Great signing by the bears. Cant believe we didnt have any WR who caught >2 touchdowns.
February 26, 200521 yr Excellent signing - I think CB is a position that JA will now look to in the draft. Zoom's contract is up after next season, and the Bears won't have the $ to pay him, and RW will more than likely be cut. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rolle taken at #4, IF Angelo keeps the pick that is. The Bears top 3 CB's in 2006 = Peanut, Rolle and Vasher, imo.
February 26, 200521 yr I love how this opens up our draft options now. Even Johnson is an option. RB? WR still? Trade down for OL? Ah I love how Angelo is a lot like KW in the under the radar sense. Just a few days ago he said we won't be very active in free agency...
February 26, 200521 yr Excellent signing; truly first-class. Now that Muhammad is on board, Angelo has a little more flexibilty on draft day. Although the WR core is nowhere near complete, he can now look at a few other positions a little more carefully. WR- I'm sorry, but Wade and Gage are not the answer. These two are #3 recievers on a good squad and that's where they deserve to be. Berrian is nothin more than a glorified special-teams player and should be used on the fly route only. I still have to believe Angelo has his eyes set on an impact offensive player with the #4 selection. He has made it known he does not plan on trading that pick away and I really think he's going to stick around and snag that offensive body: WR, RB, whatever he feels will most benefit the club. RB- With Muhammad on board, Angelo can toy around with the thought of drafting a RB with #4. Although the Bears organization is high on Jones (as well they should be), I think Benson, Carnell Williams, and Ronnie Brown take a look. Its going to be interesting to see what kind of combine Brown has, but I'm still a little apprehensive selecting him at #4. Honestly, I would take Benson with pick #4 if he were to fall, but I'd still take Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards on the offensive side of the ball. CB- Whoever thinks RW and Azumah are above-average corners are downright goofy. RW should be cut this season, and Azumah is far from tough, defensive corner. He's just too raw and is unable to cover the big recievers. Although I like him on special teams, he shouldn't be a #2, or even a nickel corner. If Angelo wants to go defense with #4, look for Rolle and Pac-Man to get a good look. I'm really high on Rolle and would be quite satisfied with that selection. QB- Angelo can't take a QB in the first round. Grossman is his boy and I think they really want to see what he can do when healthy. I think a QB will be brought in this season wheter its in the later rounds or via free agency. The Bears organization really likes Hutchinson and feel that after a full pre-season, he can be a very capable backup. David Terrell, you're plane is boarding.
February 26, 200521 yr i think the only other move we need to make in free agency is a RG.... other than that id keep it to the draft.
February 26, 200521 yr Any details on the contract, or information on the Bears overall cap situation?
February 26, 200521 yr Author But it is assumed that Muhammad will receive in the area of $12 million in total guarantees and will earn an average of between $5 million-$6 million in the first three seasons. Thats all ive found out about the contract so far
February 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) That is most certainly one of the Bears biggest needs...it will change how the Bears draft as well. Now that make me a happy Bears fan!!!! This'll allow them to concentrate somewhat more on the O Line positions but they still have some work to do at wideout. Id like to see them nail down at least one more veteran reciever before I'll feel much better about that position.
February 26, 200521 yr Author http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=bear...ov=st&type=lgns According to this its a 6 year deal
February 26, 200521 yr the only way the bears will draft d is with johnson, otherwise its rb or receiver, there is no way we draft a corner
February 26, 200521 yr Johnson, Urlacher, Briggs = Best in the League! Muhammed, Edwards, Terrell= Among the top in the league. Jones, Benson= Among the best as well. You choose!
February 26, 200521 yr i wouldnt consider Jones, Benson among the best since we dont know how good Benson is actually going to be. And with Edwards or Williams are WR corps would be good not among the best now on the LB crew you are correct that would be either the best or one of the best.
February 26, 200521 yr A six year deal it is. A couple of years longer than I thought it would be. USA TODAY ARTICLE Edited February 26, 200521 yr by Credepopsup
February 26, 200521 yr It's 6 years but it's probably really a 2-3 year deal in practice. I think Rolle is too slow, unless he shows otherwise this weekend. I think Pac-Man is an intriguing way to go, but Rolle would be overdrafted at 4. THis certianly does give the BEars mor eoptions. Being Muhammed is 31, it might still be int he best interests of the team long term to draft a young, elite receiver.
February 27, 200521 yr Somebody help, who is this Johnson you are speaking of, I'm drawing a blank. Also, I'm extremely happy with Muhamed signing. But, in a big way it pisses me off too, not that he signed, but the fact that there is a debate over who to draft now. By letting A-Train walk away, Angelo has to find another quality runner, when last year he had 1, (Train) and a serviceable bum (Jones). I'm sorry, I hate Thomas Jones. So rather than draft Williams with the 4, The Bears have to worry about another RB when keeping Train would have been the answer. Angelo has dome some really good things, but I hate him for the way he has treated A-Train and I hate Michigan too. They need to keep Terrell too, IMO.
