more on harris rumor

not sure if this was posted already...but its from chisox.com

sounds like the brewers are interested.

A rumor put forth by a Chicago radio station that the Brewers had interest in Willie Harris was news to Harris himself when he was informed on Thursday.

"I haven't heard it," Harris said. "That right there motivated me a little more. I didn't know that."

With the signing of Tadahito Iguchi and left-handed hitters Ross Gload and Timo Perez already in reserve, Harris could have to deal with trade rumors during much of Spring Training. Guillen reiterated Thursday that he likes Harris' attitude, and that he's still part of the 25-man plans.

But he didn't issue a blanket guarantee for the young second baseman to stay in Chicago.

"Right now, we have room for him and we are counting on him," Guillen said of Harris. "That's really up to Kenny. Kenny knows what we need and will do the best he can to get this team better."

"I have to concentrate on what I do here," Harris added. "I can't let trade talk distract me."

One Brewers' scout, when asked if he was at Thursday's game to watch Harris, smiled and said, "Willie Harris? I'm not sure I know who he is."

This sentence pissed me off

What? Willie Harris gets on base at a .360 clip vs. righties, and can steal bases. Timo Perez? how is this guy blocking Willie? He hardly broke the Bowa Barrier last year vs. righties(.264/.301/.368)...

I railed on the need to get a platoon partner for willie in the off-season. After all he's terrible vs. LHP. (.186/.234/.233) Yet, demonstrating his prodigious ability in outmaking, Timo is even more inept in that department too(.154/.201/.191)

Timo blocking Willie! What a f***ing joke.

I want to start the "Keep Willie, trade Timo" Club.

Cheat, wanna join?

I do, too bad timo is going no where this year. ;)

Why is this team built around such low obp guys? Shouldn't we be trying to improve in that area?

Dude, no.

That is the logical thing to do.

FREE WILLIE!

That would be a club I would join.... On a related note, I think I may have been the originator of the "fan club" -- I was on the Lovie Smith bandwagon as soon as he was hired... This was in my sig

:cheers :cheers

Someone throw out that RISP stat for Perez that makes him SO IMPORTANT again.

EDIT: Ahhh here we go;

BA/RISP .397

This Timo argument has been beaten to death. Everyone knows how everybody else feels on the subject, why not move on?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's demonstrated on his career that he actually does hit better with RISP. .318/.350/.436 on his career.

But the rest of the time he's terrible. Getting on base is just as important as driving 'em in. And on average in MLB last year only 27% of all PA's came with RISP.

Now here's where someone always says, "well he's good to have as a pinch hitter" -- His career .213/.244/.288 speaks otherwise.

I still think his problem is he's lazy. Just flat out lazy. I mean just look at least year. He started out slow, seemed to not be interested in the game and wouldn't even make the effort to run after some easy fly balls. Then he starts getting a little more playing time has a couple of lucky hits, the manage and fans fall in love with him and forget all about what a lazy ass he was just 2 weeks before. I think this team would be better off without Timo.

Harris can steal a base.. WOW. If that is all that matter than WHy no love for Spods?

Look I don't see what people love for Harris is at all.. Yes he is great with the Glove but Hell So was "MVP" Clayton, who could also steal some bases...They both have a major problem hitting the ball, something that is needed in the game.

I'm not taking the bait... get a clue

Clayton with the Sox in 2002 - .251 with a .295 OBP.

Harris with the Sox in 2004 - .262 with a .343 OBP.

Plus Clayton was definitely making more than Harris made.

I

Let's compare Timo and Willie as leadoff hitters (3year).

Timo

.306/.342/.452

Willie

.249/.319/.296

Get off the Harris Kool-aid.. He is a failure.

Harris making anymore than Jimmy.. is too much.. at least Jimmy brings something to the games.

Thru age 26

Orlando Cabrera -- .258/.309

Willie Harris -- .240/.305

I would think that you were erecting a shrine to WH in you basement by now.

Orlando Cabrera has less talent than Willie. He's a very below average hitter wih a good glove and average speed.

Willie has a very good glove, is a below average hitter and has great speed.

Cabrera = OVERHYPED :headshake

Cabrera also had more than 2x the AB's of Willie at that age.
