I think Jeff Kent playing second base will add about .50 to Lowe's era. If they still had Cora I'd feel a whole lot better about his chances for a bounceback year. This good outing might not look good a month from now depending on the Giants offensive production from here on out.

Kent is another player like Valentin who gets a bum rap for his defense...

He's far from speedy, but he's always had good range. He doesn't move towards second with the best of them, but neither did Cora, and he's got a significantly better bat than cora.

Here's Cora's and Kent's fielding charts from last year... (Right now I wouldn't call these much more than graphical representation of where a player sucessfully fielded a ball, but in the future, with more data, these would give a great visual representation of a players fielding ability)

The Cardinals put Rick Ankiel on waivers...

"Any takers? Pitcher-turned-outfielder out of options"

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2030740

HOUSTON -- Rick Ankiel was placed on unconditional release waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals, who are waiting to find out whether he will be claimed by another team.

Ankiel, who was on the Cardinals' Opening-Day roster Sunday, was out of options. He has a $400,000 salary, and the Cardinals have said they hope to have him in their minor league system if he is not claimed by another team.

He ended his pitching career last month because of recurring wildness, then started working out as an outfielder. The Cardinals would like to send him to the minors to relearn a position he hasn't played since high school.

He was out of options, obviously. A few weeks ago the Cards let it be known to anyone who would listen that he won't pitch again, so they could get him through waivers.

Poor Jose.  Booted a ball that allowed 2 runs for sf to score and win the game.

Well it was only one run that scored from the error, they got one the next inning off of Carrara's error.

But still, Jose was the goat.

LOL...

With just a one-run lead to work with, Brandon Lyon got five outs against the Cubs tonight for a save in his Diamondbacks debut.

So, who do you want up while down 5-4 with a man on first and two outs in the bottom of the ninth? If you're Dusty Baker, you choose Neifi Perez, of course, even with Jerry Hairston Jr. and Jason Dubois still sitting on the bench. If not for the fact that he bailed the Diamondbacks out of a jam in the eighth, we're not sure Lyon would deserve credit for a save. Neifi Perez.

You know Dusty ... Gotta go with the veterans.

I know it was an early start, but Comerica park is e-m-p-t-y. There's seriously about eight people at the game.

Justin Morneau left today's game in the eighth inning after being hit on the helmet by a Ron Villone pitch.

Morneau was conscious, but he was still down for quite some time before being helped off the field. There's a good chance he'll miss a few days.

Wow, the Devil Rays couldn't manage to keep Restovich? He could hit alot of homers at Coors with his power.

Rockies claimed Michael Restovich off waivers from the Devil Rays.

They probably wouldn't have made the move if not for Dustan Mohr's injury, but we still like it. The Rays didn't deserve to keep Restovich if they weren't going to use him now. Restovich becomes a sleeper in NL-only leagues. He'll start against lefties until Mohr returns.

Athletics placed shortstop Bobby Crosby on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 5, with a fractured rib.

The A's aren't sure when Crosby will be back, though it's certainly possible he'll be ready to play as soon as his 15 days are up. ''I can't tell you if it's going to be three days, 10 days, 21 days. You don't know,'' trainer Larry Davis said. Marco Scutaro will fill in for Crosby.

That Morneau injury is huge, he could be out for the Sox series which means instead of facing Morneau (giant canadian with power) we'll go up against LeCroy (fat ass).

I think Morneau will be alright.

Latest News  Apr. 6, 2005 - 8:53 pm et

Justin Morneau has been taken to a Seattle-area hospital for a CT scan.

If Morneau is going to miss a few days, it's likely that Matthew LeCroy would start at first base.

He'll be alright in the long run but him being out for alot if not all of this series is a very good thing for the Sox.

Santo -- "Oh boy..."

Now we test the theory about Ankiel being moved to the OF as a way to sneak him thru waivers. We'll see.

Man, that is just scary. You hate to see something like that to anyone. I really hope the guy is alright.

Especially after everything he's gone thorugh in his career and the off-season. He must think he's cursed or something.

Michael Barrett is a douche-bag...

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-cubs-headlines

An RBI double by Cruz off Glendon Rusch brought home the seventh run charged to Dempster, and caused a brief commotion.

Glaus' slide into Barrett brought a surprising reaction from the Cubs catcher considering the innocuous nature of the collision.

As Glaus got up to walk away, Barrett gave him a slight shove.

Glaus threw up his hands in amazement, and plate umpire Ron Kulpa quickly stepped in between the two players before any problems could occur.

Two innings later, Barrett blasted a three-run homer off reliever Brian Bruney for the Cubs' only runs of the game.
