Garland loves the big inning, lets see what else happens here

I know one thing. Oakland will always crush us no matter who is pitching or who is hitting. ST, regular season, it doesn't matter. They own us.

Jermaine Dye on first w/ 1 out and Chris Widger up

We are winning

No, but he brings it up like Billy just lucked into those guys.  Does he forget who drafted them (IIRC, Billy drafted at least two out of the three)?

And, his constant ragging of Oakland's system is really pathetic.  Oakland has won more games in a much tougher division the past what, four, five years, and then he turns around and calls Kenny the best GM in all of baseball...

It's overkill at this point...

So in your opinion, what has contributed more to their sucess; the sabrmetrics aprroach, or the stellar pitching?

Iguchi 3-4 with 2 ribbies. I think we are going to like him a whole lot.

3rd hit for Iguchi down the left field line. Run scores. Iguchi thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. Dumb move, but Gooch sure seems to be coming around at the plate.

Jermaine Dye hits a double to the right-center gap Pauly and Carl score

9-5 Sox :headbang

Certainly both, but wouldn't you say that the sabermetric approach helped them land a guy like Zito or Mulder -- a guy that doesn't necessarily throw hard, but has proven that how he throws works? Then again, I can't really characterize Beane taking Zito/Mulder as sabermetric...

I'm really not the one to ask about this. I'm very dumb when it comes to sabermetrics, and am trying to learn as much as I can through reading guys like Bill James.

I just know that the comments that Hawk makes towards Beane and his approach to building a winner are stupid.

I don't recall many games against Oakland which were blowout wins, or where our pitching simply dominated. Whether our bullpen surrenders the lead, offense is shutdown, or some fluke occurence (Magg losing flyball in fog two seasons ago) there's always been a reoccuring theme of futility. Our troubles against Oakland disgust me becuase I take personal pleasure in watching Oakland lose, and Billy Bean supporters covering his ass. Nothing would satisfy me more than Oakland losing 90+ games this year. However, I'll probably hear" this is a rebuilding effort" in response.

Yah, but all I know is everytime we've played them since 2001 it seems like we're getting beat by them. Occasionally you might see a 2 outta 3 at home, but man it seems like they just beat us everytime. I think I'd rather play the Yanks or Bosox.

Didnt Jimenez lose a pop fly with the bags juiced and allowed 2 runs to score one time? Also, didnt maggs hit a homer but bounced inside the fence and came back in and called it a double? We've had some bad luck against them...

I don't see them losing 90 games - but I don't see them winning the West either. Angels all the way.

Marte not throwing anything but fastballs for some reason.

Man on 2nd, 9-7. 1 out.

Some minor leaguer grounds to Valdez, he throws to third and gets the out. Man on 1st. 2 outs.

Walk. 1st and 2nd. 2 outs.

Btw, does anyone know if chat still supposed to be up by opening day? Sorry for off-topic, just all the calls for pbp reminded me.
