What the hell are "physical problems?"  That doesn't good, even if Bruce speculations are right about him missing only one or two starts or even none.  Nonetheless, it's not good to hear and you wonder if in his last start he was hurt, he has been throwing a lot of pitches this year.

That is funny. They all dismissed the idea until they got our confirmation. Then all of the people who were saying "no way" either disappeared or really softened up their tune.

Bruce Levine was the first to report the rumor and Offman reported McCarthy boarding a plane.

 

EDIT: Perhaps I should just congratulate Jason as that seems to be the trend.

He came up with that AFTER it was posted here that BMac was scratched. Offman NEVER comes up with his own stuff. McCarthy to join Sox this weekend

Reliever to be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte

CHICAGO -- Brandon McCarthy lived out his childhood dream to play on the same team as Frank Thomas, both in Spring Training and with Triple-A Charlotte, during Thomas' current rehab assignment with the Knights.

 

But McCarthy still has yet to pitch in the same starting lineup as one of his baseball heroes.

 

McCarthy was scheduled to start Friday night in Ottawa, against former White Sox hurler James Baldwin. The right-hander was scratched from his appearance, replaced by left-hander Arnie Munoz, and MLB.com has learned from a Minor League source that the 21-year-old will be traveling to Chicago and be recalled by the White Sox. He will join the team this weekend at Wrigley Field.

 

The specific role for McCarthy still is unclear, as is the accompanying Major League move. McCarthy could be added to the White Sox bullpen or, more likely, would start on either Saturday or Sunday.

 

During the 2004 season, McCarthy was as dominant as any Minor League hurler. He compiled a 17-6 record over 27 starts and led the Minors with 202 strikes. Even more impressive was McCarthy's 30 total walks and 134 hits allowed over 172 innings pitched.

 

He was ticketed for Double-A Birmingham in 2005, after making just four starts for the Barons. But McCarthy's Spring Training dominance pushed him to a promotion with the Knights. It also put him as the No. 1 option for pitching help within the White Sox system, a player who made it hard for manager Ozzie Guillen to send down from Tucson.

 

"The way he pitched in Spring Training, he almost made that club," said Charlotte manager Nick Leyva, in a story about McCarthy as part of Friday's Chicago Tribune. "How can you penalize a guy who almost made the Major League club?"

 

"To be honest, it doesn't even feel like it's that close," added McCarthy in the same article. "I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm here, and that's all I'm thinking about -- pitching here and helping these guys win. Things outside of that I haven't really thought about."

 

After posting a 3-4 record with a 4.78 ERA for Charlotte, McCarthy can start thinking about the Majors. His numbers were slightly skewed by pitching in a hitters' park like the Knights Castle, having allowed nine home runs in 47 2/3 innings -- all in Charlotte. But McCarthy has fanned 61 and exhibited his standard pinpoint control with 14 walks.

 

McCarthy was selected in the 17th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

MLB.com has learned from a Minor League source that the 21-year-old will be traveling to Chicago and be recalled by the White Sox.

We'll go with that info, now all we need to know is what's up with El Duque. I'd imagine that info will be very hard to come by.

Exactly..hopefully Levine is right and it will only be a couple starts max. It definately seems as if the Sox are trying to be as quiet as possible about it. Maybe they figure it will at least keep the Cubs guessing as to who the starter will be. Hell at least you have the team preparing for El Duque a little longer (not that I really think this will be much of a factor either way).

This is all really odd. In his interview with Comcast yesterday he acted strange when being asked about when he would be called up the the Majors. Maybe they had told him to be extra ready for this weekend?
