May 22, 200520 yr He had a rough year last season and I was hoping he could comeback strong. Brien is NOT the answer.
May 22, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(Brian @ May 22, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Brien is NOT the answer. Helluva lot better then Edinger.
May 22, 200520 yr Doesn't matter, We still have RT as the OC.. so we are going to suck.. get used to 4 maybe 5 win season.
May 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 22, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) http://www.kffl.com/article.php/29502/115 About time
May 22, 200520 yr I like it. Two straight poor seasons for Edinger. I don't know if Brien is the answer, but I like the two rooks the Bears have in camp plus I've always been a fan of Nick Setta (he's got a hell of a leg).
May 22, 200520 yr He had to go. You can't pay $1.2m to a kicker who's been that bad for a season and a half.
May 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 22, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Two words, Tyler Jones! Not a bad choice either. He kicked some ass at Boise State.
May 22, 200520 yr Edinger made 68% of his FGs the last 2 seasons.... Any think the bears are actually going to put up a better % than that next season?
May 22, 200520 yr The Bears currently have 4 kickers on their roster. Brien with 12 years experience, Setta from ND this is his second season and the two rookies Novak from Maryland and Jones from Notre Dame. This should be pretty interesting.
May 22, 200520 yr Nick Novak baby. In training camp (and I realize its camp) he's been nailing field goals and has a big time leg for kickoffs.
May 22, 200520 yr Oh boy, I really like Nick Setta. I think he has a really good chance to make the roster.
May 22, 200520 yr Isn't Setta from Lockport? I'm almost positive I saw him play there, big time stud that kid is.
May 22, 200520 yr Nick Setta WAS Lockport football when he was there. My high school played his in the playoffs and he hit nearly everything (except for the deep field goal for the win). So he's most defintely a hometown kid. I was able to see him the whole time he was at ND, and he's a great kicker. Accurate and has good range. I'm confident he can be just as good as Edinger was when Edinger was hot. More importantly, he's a great guy and I'm really pulling for him. I lived in the same dorm as Nick for his last two years (he was a senior, I was a freshman), and the guy is really a class act. I really hope he gets the fair shake in all of this, because his talent will speak for itself and he deserves a fair shot.
May 23, 200520 yr Brien will choke. Plus his success rate from outside 40 will be under 25%. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can't be any worse than what Edinger's sorry ass did last season.
May 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:19 PM) Can't be any worse than what Edinger's sorry ass did last season. Like Brien choking in the playoffs? Lets use the Jose Mesa mentality here.
May 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) Lets use the Jose Mesa mentality here. O'Briens going to threaten someone's life? Really though, I agree with you. But, just maybe a change of scenery may help. He will always be a choker. Not a trait you want in your kicker
May 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(rangercal @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) O'Briens going to threaten someone's life? Really though, I agree with you. But, just maybe a change of scenery may help. He will always be a choker. Not a trait you want in your kicker This will be the 7th team in his career he's been on. Now I know kicker's do move around a long unless your name is Adam Vinateri or David Akers, but that should prove what type of a kicker he is.
May 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 23, 2005 -> 07:54 AM) This will be the 7th team in his career he's been on. Now I know kicker's do move around a long unless your name is Adam Vinateri or David Akers, but that should prove what type of a kicker he is. The only reason he was released was because the Jets got the best kicker around in Mike Nugent. He is the truth.
May 23, 200520 yr Dbaho...IIRC Brien is 10th all time in field goal accuracy. He was very good last season minus that one playoff game. Everyone has bad games.
May 23, 200520 yr Maybe this is why they cut Edinger... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true Doug Brien converted six of seven field goals and Paul Edinger four of seven in Saturday's morning competition. "We've done this before and we'll just let the competition unfold and see how it takes shape," general manager Jerry Angelo said. Kicking guru Randy Brown, a member of the Philadelphia Eagles' staff (with Toub) and a former Bears assistant who turned Todd Sauerbrun into a Pro Bowl punter, will work with Bears kickers through the weekend.
