El Duque argument

i totally disagree.  he will be a huge part of the sox in the postseason as a starter, which is the biggest reason they wanna keep him healthy the whole season.  he has so much invaluable experience winning it all, nobody on the sox has as much experience as him.  always helps to have a guy like him.  he knows what it takes to win under pressure.  the key is keeping him healthy.

I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. Right now, we have roughly 3 or 4 guys on our team with a good amount of post-season experience: Pierzynski, Dye, Everett?, and El Duque. A couple of other guys have been there once or twice, but done nothing to write home about.

Those are the guys who you want to make sure get their playing time in the post-season. El Duque has been there so many times that he knows what it will take to carry this team when it hits. Hell, had his arm not given out last year, we'd probably be talking about El Duque's part in the Curse of the Bambino.

I still don't think i twould be a bad ideea to give El Duque another stint on the 15 day DL sometime in July just so he's rested for August and September.

We got a little taste of just how hard it was for Torre to manage him with the Yanks. El Duque gets better as the game goes on. That's naturally going to lead him to want to pitch beyond the 100 pc mark. Sometimes the Yanks let him go into the 120-130 range 3 starts in a row. They paid for it.

I too believe El Duque will be invaluable in the pen in the post-season. You only need 4 starters in the post-season. That leaves El Duque in the pen.

He's gotten the job done in that role.

He is also a playoff pitcher.  Honestly when it comes to a big game situation, we have no more proven pitcher than Hernandez... He is money when it counts.

One of the best postseason pitchers currently in baseball.

10-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 14 career postseason starts. Including a 1.98 ERA in the Divisional series and a 2.28 in the World Series.

This is exactly why he wont be in the bullpen, I wouldnt be surprised if they moved him up in the rotation as well. He is flat out the best post season pitcher we have.

In a playoff setting, the guy who could benefit us the most out of the pen is Contreras. #1 he has done it, and succeeded before, and #2 he can let it all out, and not hold anything back.

that was my point.

i dont think El Duque and Coop werent really arguing at one point Coop was doing some fake boxing moves. So unless he was showing El Duque how he was gonna knock him out. I think El Duque just wanted to stay in the game so he could bat again and fall down running around the bases.

El Duque MUST start in the playoffs if we go (I aint jinxing nobody.)

Do you really want Garland pitching in the playoffs steadily?

Buehrle, Garcia, El Duque and Count. Garland will hopefully get his playoff starts some time or another. But if we go this year, we gotta grab the bull by the horns and win it all.. we cant make dumb mistakes by giving reps to Garland just so he knows what it's like to start a playoff game. Big Jon will be huge in relief for us hopefully.

I completely disagree with this. At this point I would have Garland going #3. The way things stand right now, I see Hernandez being the one going to the pen unless he regains his control by playoff time.

Its hard to say who would go to the pen, I would see Ozzie even starting Duque in the first game as he did against the twins when it counted. He has the ability to shut down opponents in the playoffs moreso than anyone that we have. We will have to see who is performing well late in the year to make any decisions about who goes to the pen.

If Garland wins 18-20 games, he deserves the opportunity to start in the playoffs.

El Duque in the playoffs is MONEY

Count is living up to that potential and if he got ANY run support he'd be a Cy Young candidate.

Buehrle is Buehrle, no question.

Freddy can flat out dominate anywhere if he's in, case in point, 22 straight batters retired in Coors.

Garland is a good young pitcher and has a knack for getting out of jams, but in the playoffs, he'll have to limit himself ever getting into jams in the 1st place.

If Garland wins 18-20 games, he deserves the opportunity to start in the playoffs.

What if Duque wins 18-20 too?

That could happen, he's 7-1 now.

Nobody deserves anything if it potentially costs us a play-off game. I'd rather have Hernandez start a game than Garland.

As early as the season is now, you can't predict the starters just yet, we know Duque is great but lets see how he does the remainder of the season. In reality, most of our starters can be playoff caliber especially if Count and Duque get better control. I know Buehrle would be my #1 though thats a given. The rest depend on how they do the rest of the season.

Out of respect, id give MB game one. And no question El Duque next. Garland or Count can move to the pen, no way in hell i move Duque.

Those big late season series we have against the Twins will determine who our playoff starters will be, if we do make the playoffs. If these guys choke against Minnesota, it will become a moot point.

really our worse starter has been El Duque so far this season, but like it has been said b4 he has to start in the playoffs. After him id debate whether it is Garcia or Contreras.... I really think Contreras is the guy who ends up in the pen because he would be so dominating as a RP and Ozzie wont make Garcia a RP.....

I see it as follows If we have home advantage.

Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, El Duque, Buehrle

If dont.

Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, El Duque, Buehrle

have to make sure Garcia starts on the road unless we playing in texas...
