June 19, 200520 yr Ya get what ya pay for. Going into this season, I think just about everybody knew El Duque was going to get hurt, and that he wasn't going to be able to make 30+ starts. Oh well. But, I'll say this -- what El Duque has done for four million bucks is better than what guys like Eric Milton and Jared Wright are doing for $7 million +. We'll need him down the stretch.
June 19, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) I'm not really sure how it works when calling up a guy multiple times. Does he lose options when this happens? And are we just going to put Duque on the DL once a month? I have no problem with this, just looks like that might be happening. Once a guy is sent down his option is used up and he can go up and down as many times that entire year. I think each player gets 3 options (not 100% on that), which means you could essentially have 3 years of going up and down.
June 19, 200520 yr Author Guys it was a done move earlier. No speculation, it was just fortified to 100% when he missed that start. I have heard this may be a little longer stint than the last one as well as the Sox want to make sure next time Duque is back his arm is 100%. I don't know what the status of his arm is and if they needed him to pitch they would let him, but I think they saw his past couple starts, mixed with tightness and figure its better to shut him down now for a few weeks than do anything else. Once again FutureSox.com breaks a story (got to toot my own horn a bit, lol).
June 19, 200520 yr Author To go on with a little something. There are some reasons for why he's struggled down in Charlotte and to say the least Brandon has some things going for him this time around. I think we'll see the Bmac of spring training on Tuesday. Ken Williams was also quoted this afternoon as saying Brandon would stay up here for the long haul (potentially) if he pitchdes well I love hearing that. He made no mention as to whether it would be in the rotation or pen. All I know is if Bmac pitches well, he's going to be making the next few starts and than some.
June 19, 200520 yr QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Let's just say no matter where we are playing this game will be easier on BMac than facing Texas anywhere. I doubt he will have much of a problem with KC but that's JMO. Until he gets some movement on his fastball he is going to have problems with everyone
June 20, 200520 yr QUOTE(TheHammer @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Until he gets some movement on his fastball he is going to have problems with everyone Like the Cubs?
June 20, 200520 yr McCarthy was playing with fire a lot during the CUbs game. A lot of balls were hit hard right at people and he was taken out of the game after 78 pitches because it was very apparent that the Cubs were about to break through, and they did plate 3 runs the inning he left. He has given up 5 home runs in 10.1 innings for a reason. He has the ability to be effective in the big leagues but with that laser straight heater he is going to give up long balls aplenty.
June 20, 200520 yr I guess this is Bmac's job to lose, if he pitches well from what is being said he will stay there. Good luck to Bmac and hopefully Duke can come back strong. If he doesn't do good I am expecting KW to bring in a good SP. I just saw the article from FutureSox, sorry for creating a new thread. June 20, 200520 yr What a difference from a year ago when I had zero confidence of anyone we called up.
June 20, 200520 yr Damn Jason, you must have been busy today; flying back to Cali, catching the Angels game, and writing the article. Thanks for the info on the situation.

Thanks for the info on the situation. You know it...On an unrelated sidenote, it was nice meeting you and hopefully you guys had a good time at the game. I know that may of been the best Sox game I've ever seen in person (in 2000 I saw them come back and beat the Halos and Percy in Anaheim which was the former #1). We were flipping out.
June 20, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Is B-Mac pitching on Monday or Tuesday? I heard Tuesday originally and thats still the main indication, however there has also been some talk of him going on Monday. If I were to go out on a limb I'd say its a 75% that he'll start on Tuesday.

It was a great game! We ended up standing over near the fan deck for 3 innings before moving to the 2nd row in the outfield near the Dodgers pen. It was very nice meeting the father of soxtalk.

June 20, 200520 yr I am really worried about this spot in the rotation. I don't think Mcarthy is A) Ready for the Bigs, and B) As good as people think. I really hope he shows me up, but I don't like the direction this is heading.

I'd like to see us add a veteran who can work long innings out of the bullpen and make spot starts if needed.
June 20, 200520 yr Sweeneys out now. Hm...things are looking up for Brandon. Now he has to take care of business.
