E-Lo is having a solid year. Maybe looking at 12-14 wins if he were on a team with a better offense. Same can be said with count. It is a toss up between the two right handers in last year's trade. But, I have to lean towards Count. They have similar #'s when you compare an AL pitcher to a NL pitcher. Count also has a higher ceiling (even at 33 years old) and has the potential to show flashes of dominance.

Looks pretty even. Count should have a couple more victories, he also probably has a better upside, although EL had a magical year in 2003 that would be hard for anyone to duplicate.

I loved Loiaza. He seemed to really like here and was one of the classiest guys. I could also tease the Mexican guys at work,that we had one of there own on our team,and the Cubs did not.

ill take the count. loiaza didnt want to listen to coop and co and there is evidence when he reached in the mid-high 90's during the all star game. and al batters figured him out

they are both listed at 33. Count is december 6th 1971, Elo December 31st of 71. Elo is younger. Count is 33 in cuban years. I dont think he is 33

The way Contreras is pitching right now, he could start the playoffs for just about any team that doesn't have Jesus Christ pitching for them.

Elo is having a nice bounce back year after the disaster of last year but still ive grown to like Contreras but one thing ill say that season Loaiza had in 2003 was pure amazing and than he followed it with a great 1st month in 2004 before it went all down hill.

I do not believe the question is 'Who won the deal?', it is 'Who would you rather have?'.

 

Give me Contreras any day of the week...unless financial terms are included. If we bring money into the discussion as well, then it is perhaps a different story...and perhaps not.

Both players needed a change in clubhouses. I doubt either one would be doing as well if they had not changed teams.

Esteban was lazy last year with us. There is no doubt in my mind of that. I'm happy with Jose, thank you.

Conteras has better stuff. Opponents are hitting only .237 against him vs. E-Lo's .265 in the NL. Also, Count has looked really good lately.

I think it was more of a guy coming back to reality after a 2003 that he'll never repeat again. Loaiza's 2003 was spectacular, but it was clearly a fluke season. Contreras, in my mind, has still never justified the money he got from NY and is getting from us, but he is a serviceable No.3/4 big league starter at this point. I do not expect to see him on the southside beyond next season, unless he takes a huge paycut or moves into the bullpen.

He was throwing 88-90 miles an hour with us the entire first half of the season. He plays in the all-star game and is popping it at 94? Then the entire rest of the year with the yankees he was topping out around 94.
