If I was Burke I would look at my options with other teams. Not that I am against Widge but first Widge breaks camp with the team and now Casanova over him??

Nobody wants him. I think every other team in baseball had a shot at him a few months ago, and that was when Zaun went down and Seattle had no catcher.

Perhaps I'll take a stab at it.  Sanders has an ERA of 3.02 and has been a key lefty out of the bullpen in Charlotte.  Diaz has an ERA of 4.95 and has been very inconsistent this year.  Munoz has really struggled lately, including tonight.

 

Perhaps they feel Casanova is a better defensive catcher than Burke??  Burke only played 46 of his 96 games this year at catcher, so it seems obvious to me they don't really see him as a catcher, but more as a utility player that can catch.  Note he played most of those games at catcher while Casanova was hurt. 

 

Then again, perhaps it is simply because Casanova is hitting .314 with 7 HR and 18 RBI in the month of August while Burke is hitting .244?

 

While I don't always agree with Sox personnel decisions, why is it so necessary to criticize decisions made with input from coaches who see these players daily?

 

I personally don't have a feel for Casanova, but I do know that Sanders is tough against lefties, as evidenced by his 2.45 ERA and .216 BA against them.

I'd rather have Gload and Anderson in the game than Blum (thanks for really sparking us Mr. Blum, you've been not so good) and Timo. Geez I don't like Timo much and Ozuna doesn't do much for me either.

Before his defensive disaster yesterday, he had been superb in the field. He had a huge double in extra innings to beat the Twins, and he's had some solid ABs lately. He definitely should not be the scapegoat.

Blum's not the type of guy who's going to spark a team. He's very soft spoken, and not very dynamic on the field. He's very much like Crede in terms of his personality. I sure don't mind the guaranteed 0-4 that we were getting from the 3b position before the injury to Crede.

Because he's been able to play every single infield position. You can't find many MLB caliber players who can play all infield positions. You can find plenty of guys who could do what Timo is doing. Also, it's not like we gave up a lot to get Blum.

Neither are starters and you can argue that Blum is more valuable as a bench player but he is terrible offensively. Everyone here seems to think we'd better off with him starting yet Crede still remains a better option with two herniated discs.
