September 25, 200520 yr And Mark was even nice enough to wrap this one up before the 2nd half of the Pats/Steelers got under way. Thanks man! Real nice of ya!
September 25, 200520 yr this was great...thank you sox...thank you soo much... i'm starting to think if we really pull this off ( no jinx, i'm knocking on every piece of f***ing wood available) that it could make us a BETTER playoff team then had we entered at 15.5 games ahead. but i am just hoping we still win the division/make the playoffs
September 25, 200520 yr The Sox gotta finish business vs. Detroit. Make Cleveland have to win vs. TB in order to stay in it.
September 25, 200520 yr The last three games looked like how teams should play when they have to win during the pennant race. Get the early lead against a team that has nothing to play for, and have strong starting pitching. That Dye homer on Friday was a big turning point for this team.
September 25, 200520 yr correct me if im wrong, but isnt the real magic number only 3? since the sox get the nod in a tie breaker, 3 wins or cle losses will leave the race tied in which case the sox will win the division
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) correct me if im wrong, but isnt the real magic number only 3? since the sox get the nod in a tie breaker, 3 wins or cle losses will leave the race tied in which case the sox will win the division 4 wins or Cle losses. Magic # = 1 means that the guy behind you can only tie. Magic number is 5, so we need 4 Sox wins or cleveland losses to guarantee a tie.
September 25, 200520 yr 3 is the magic number to get into the playoffs (i.e., clinch at least the WC). Its that low because BOS and NYY play each other 3 times.
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) 3 is the magic number http://www.schoolhouserock.tv/Three.html
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) 3 is the magic number to get into the playoffs (i.e., clinch at least the WC). Its that low because BOS and NYY play each other 3 times. 3 is the amount of wins, but 3 isn't the magic number for the playoffs right now. That number won't go down if just one of the teams lose.
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) 3 is the amount of wins, but 3 isn't the magic number for the playoffs right now. That number won't go down if just one of the teams lose. Correct, both those teams have to lose for that magic number to go down.
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Correct, both those teams have to lose for that magic number to go down. Exactly! We put ourselves in a great situation this wknd to make the playoffs, even if we lose a handful of games this week.
September 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) 3 is the magic number to get into the playoffs (i.e., clinch at least the WC). Its that low because BOS and NYY play each other 3 times. good point Mr. Osuna!! Way to analyze! We are closer than we thought to at LEAST clinch a playoff spot!! Woohoo!!
September 25, 200520 yr Just so you know Scott - winning all four against detroit would increase our lead to three games and would clinch at least a tie for the AL Central.
September 25, 200520 yr EAT s*** MINNY!!!!!!! WTG MARK!!!!! NICE TO SEE THIS TEAM GROW SOME BALLS AND PLAY LIKE THEY WANT TO BE IN THE POST SEASON......... GIMME A HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 26, 200520 yr Perfect day (well, except for the disaster you call a Bears game) Cleveland loses and Sox win. Welcome back, Mark. Following the trend of your co-horts. Let's wrap this thing up in Detroit and not worry about anything else except the playoff rotation in Cleveland. 5
September 26, 200520 yr Im still not sure if the real Buehrle is back yet. Did anyone look at their lineup. Of the players who had enough ab's to count the highest avg. was like .260
