Aaron Rowand

Florida has made it clear that they have interest in three players on our Major League Roster... Marte, Contreras, and Rowand.  A trade of adding Rowand allows the Marlins to have a cheaper/new alternative to Pierre in center.  Pierre will be dealt, if not during the offseason... before the trade deadline.  The Marlins are supposedly trying to cut their payroll in half (YIKES).

If I had to bet on one player getting traded this offseason, it would be Damaso Marte (but we would need to add another lefty first).  If that doesn't happen, I see Rowand as next in line to be dealt.

Hard to do that without tampering.

Tampering? GM Meetings just took place. A lot of things were talked about... this was one of them.

So you could show me a source that says Larry Beinfest or anyone with the Marlins for that matter have mentioned Rowand, Contreras and Marte by name?

I can tell you that I am very close to someone involved in baseball, and this is what has been told to me. Take it or leave it... just letting you know what I have been told.

If Florida moves Pierre and doesn't sign Encarnacion, they will need outfield help badly. It would leave them with 3 outfielders: Cabrera, Hermida, and Aguila. And although Hermida projects to be quite a player, him and Aguila have about 160 major league AB's between them. I could defintitely see them having strong interest in Rowand under those circumstances.

And I appreciate it very much. I remember last year when you let us in on the details about Lee for Pods before it happened.

It makes sense.

And Guillen likes Juan Pierre, so there's a match.

Not saying anything will happen, but there's a fit.

Didn't he post the Raffy Palmeiro steroid thing too?

I'm not doubting that the Marlins have a lot of interest in these players I just don't think they've made this wishes public.

I don't think they have made these wishes public. That's why we have JD on the inside to give us the scoop.

Are you Bruce Levine? :lolhitting

They probably came to them in trade talks for Burnett and proclaimed those 3 guys as players they would be interested in.

Kalapse, I'd take JD's words pretty strongly. Not saying its 100%, but if he heard it, it is its from someone he knows pretty well whose tied into baseball. He's definately one of the people I'd consider a Soxtalk source.

No, JD actually knows what he's talking about :)

Thanks for the backing guys.

I just share what I am told.

You really have to stop replying to posts before you read the clearification later in the thread. ;)

Apparently, the Sox think Brian Anderson is ready to start in center field.

The New York Yankees and Florida are among the teams looking for a center fielder. With the Sox making no secret of wanting to break in rookie Brian Anderson, Aaron Rowand could be trade bait.

But the Yankees might need to get a third team involved to have any chance of landing Rowand, who will earn at least $6.5 million over the next two seasons.

Florida also could be in the market for a center fielder if arbitration-eligible speedster Juan Pierre is dealt, but the Marlins won't take on additional salary in any deal.

Grain.of.salt.

The Sox, meanwhile, might be resigned to using Damaso Marte as their second left-handed reliever if they can't find an upgrade in the mold of Eyre.
That's from the same article.

Oh No! The Sox may have to rely on one of the best relievers in baseball (2002-2004) as their second lefty! What ever shall we do!?!?

After seeing the ridiculous contract Eyre got from the Cubs for having one good season, I'd rather have Marte. At least Marte had three good seasons and only one bad one. Who would you rather have? Eyre for 3 years and $11 million or Marte for 3 years and $8.25 million? And Eyre got a $1.5 million signing bonus and a no-trade clause. :puke

Theres a fit why? Because YOU think Guillen likes him? The guy doesnt fit on our team, bar none. We dont need another light hitting Lead off man with a s***ty arm who gets bad jumps on balls. No way no how.

Rowand to Florida for Delgado if PK leaves

yeah that deal will go through...if we also throw in about 30 mill at least along with rowand. i just saw a pig fly by my cubicle.

did the pig have headphones on.... listening to pink floyd?

yes. yes he was.
