December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Is Alex Woodson even eligible to be traded as he was drafted in 2005? No. You're correct.
December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) There's a rule on when you can trade a player from the draft? That's news to me. Ya, I forget what it is. I almost thought it was a year, but that is probably too long.
December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) No. You're correct. So what is the rule on trading a player from that years draft? Do they have to be in your organzation for a year or something different.
December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Ya, I forget what it is. I almost thought it was a year, but that is probably too long. O okay, thanks.
December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) O okay, thanks. Its either a full year from the draft or something like until May 15th. The draft is in June in case people are curious.
December 31, 200520 yr Tim Purpura is dreaming if he thinks someone like Taveras or Lane and a pitching prospect is going to be able to get them Tejada. They'll have to include Lidge.

December 31, 200520 yr so the way i understand it the white sox have a few clear advantages in the tejada talks. 1. we seem to be the only team offering a ss in return for tejada. 2. we are not trying to cripple baltimore with payroll add-ons. 3. the count seems to be the second best (or best if you hate prior) pitcher offered. 4. the sox are not in the AL East. 5. tejada wants traded to a contendor. 6. arnie munoz was just rated the best prospect in baseball by baseball america.
December 31, 200520 yr OK, let's say for a second that the Sox do in fact trade Uribe and Contreras for Tejada. This means that McCarthy definitely goes to the rotation, and now we have two different starters from last year in Brandon and Vazquez (which is good and bad because it means no more Duque, but it still has question marks in those two replacements). That scares me a little because a starter is likely to go down at some point during the season, perhaps for an extended period of time. I don't know who would replace that starter. And then what about the bullpen? McCarthy would be in it now, with the rotation already full. When he's taken out of it, that leaves two likely open spots in the pen. So, I also wonder who would fill those positions especially since we'd probably be maxed out financially for the year.

Yes that is the downside, and its not like there are that many decent relievers left.
December 31, 200520 yr the team's board of directors are willing to take the payroll up to $105 million. Andytheclown said the payroll could go to 106 mil. Andytheclown, don't get your Father fired, KW likes to stay under the radar. Oh yea, and welcome to Soxtalk! There is a lot of smoke around this rumor. The fact Levine says the scrubs are the front runners and the sox want to cut payroll makes me think the Sox are really up to something. My take on Tejada quiting on his team. That's a crappy thing to do if it is in fact true. However, playing for Baltimore with sucky sosa and raffy pointing at him and blaming his "tainted B-12 shot" had to really make him frustrated. Tejada on the Sox with Ozzie could excell. My take on Iguchi batting 2nd. He may not mind it so much if he had Tejada batting behind him instead of Carl.

December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Yes that is the downside, and its not like there are that many decent relievers left. I hope nobody gets me wrong, though. I love the idea of having possibly the best SS in baseball on the Sox. He's great defensively and offensively, and he seems like a nice guy. I just don't like the steroid talk about him. He was named as a possibility in Canseco's book, and Palmeiro pointed a finger at him. I'm sure Palmeiro did it just so he can push the blame on someone else, but I also believe he chose Tejada for a reason. And then I don't want ship off Uribe. The guy dropped Boras and signed a good deal with the Sox. He plays hard as hell, and might even be a better defender than Tejada. He almost single-handedly ended the World Series for the Sox on top of that. I don't like getting attached to players, but after this possibly scenario, the Sox have replaced a whole lot of last year's team in one offseason. I'm all for improving the team, but that just worries me a lot. It would also remove all of the depth from the rotation and take a pitcher from the bullpen. I love this trade and I dislike it at the same time.

McCarthy as the long man out of the pen may be overkill. KW will need to get a starter for the long man spot if a deal goes down just in case of injury. I don't think we really know what the Sox max payroll will be next year. What the Sox say or what they tell Levine, may be a smokescreen. Or, it may be subject to change if an impact player such as Tejada is available. Or, ticket sales are going even better than expected and the Sox are in a position to bump the payroll even farther. Pods Iguchi Tejada Konerko Thome Dye AJ Crede Andersen MB FG JV BM JG That is impressive and fun to talk about.

Especially with Guillen's love of the lefty-righty thing, I think Thome might bat 3rd in that scenario.
December 31, 200520 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Do you think Thome would bat 5th? Especially with Guillen's love of the lefty-righty thing, I think Thome might bat 3rd in that scenario. If Thome batted third then Paulie would stay at cleanup and Tejada would move to 5th.
December 31, 200520 yr Do you think Thome would bat 5th? Especially with Guillen's love of the lefty-righty thing, I think Thome might bat 3rd in that scenario. I would bat Thome 5th. Thome has a better OBP, but I think Paully could benefit from Thome's protection in the lineup. Thome also strikes out a lot and Konerko would be better at getting a big sac fly or basehit up the middle. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I remember reading on this site somewhere that Konerko was told by KW that the Sox would go out and get him some protection in the lineup. Tejada sure would be nice batting 3rd. Figuring out where to bat Konerko, Tejada, and Thome would be a wonderful problem to have.

December 31, 200520 yr Ah, but the same could be said of having our current 5 starters with McCarthy waiting to fill in. Very true. I'm happy if the Sox get Tejada. I'm happy if the Sox keep their pitching. I can't lose.
