Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp

Featured Replies

Oh, and Crisp and PODS had almost Identical ZR this year and the same RF while playing left field.. I guess PODS would have been the best CF'er in the league as well.

LOL, basically the same thing I said.

Coco is a pretty damn good defensive outfielder no matter what his zone rating says.

But you will admit, there is a big difference in patrolling LF and patrolling CF. A great defensive LF does not translate to a great CF.

2005 stats LF

C Crisp .987 FPCT 2.23 RF .906 ZR

PODS .989 FPCT 2.23 RF .904 ZR

Agreed, he's a good outfielder and a very good lf but yes patrolling cf for a whole year is much different then left.

No,no,no, I'm just saying I do believe he's a very good defensive outfielder no matter what those stats say, but obviously that's jmo.

Agreed, he is top 3 in the AL from what I see. But RNW is claiming he would be the top CF in the AL based on his numbers this year. Which are the same as PODS, and when he played CF, he didnt play it well.

defensive ability in centerfield:  crisp>damon

please, pal, enough.

Best centerfielder? Andruw Jones hammered the ball last year and we all know he's a stud defensively. Don't be so quick to assume that Crisp is going to be this amazing CFer defensively.

He's a very good defensive leftfielder. Doesn't mean he'll be a great centerfielder. But I don't think he'll be bad either. I think its crazy to assume he'll be one of the best defensively.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:00 AM)
I think it was based on Crisp's CF stats this year which was a .955 FP 2.37 RF .778 ZR

Or maybe 2004 where his RF was 2.32 and his ZR was .865 while playing CF.

For his range factor in 2005 he would have been behind  (In the AL):

J Reed 3.05

Nook Logan 2.93

Johnny Damon 2.93

David Dejesus 2.80

matos 2.77

rowand 2.57

Sizemore 2.47

Williams 2.42

Wells 2.41

In Zone rating he would have been 9th with his stats from 2004 and not even on the charts this year.

Crisp in CF stats. We KNOW he is not that good in CF.

defensive ability in centerfield:  crisp>damon

Ummm, no?

please, pal, enough. Leave your homerism at the door.

where did i say he was the best defensive outfielder in baseball? that was jeremy reed.

i did however say that crisp was head and shoulders above damon defensively, but maybes thats just because im sick of seeing guys like paul konerko run from first to third on his noodle arm.

i specified the american league, and im not assuming crisp is going to be amazing defensively, thats not what i said. i did say crisp is a better defensive centerfielder than damon is.

:)

you think johnny damon is a better defensive centerfielder than coco crisp? please tell me this is not what your saying.

haha

his season last year, translated into the centerfield position, would have netted him as the best centerfielder in the american league.

Here is where you said that.

Well considering I put up his stats in CF last year and they werent even in the top ten in the AL. As well as his stats in CF from 2004.

On top of that, his stats in LF are the same as PODS, which means that you would think PODS would also be the best CF in the AL.

haha

Last year, Damon was better in CF and career-wise he is better in CF than Crisp. I'm just using stats to back up my statements because I have never seen enough of both of them playing CF. But you are using Crisp's defensive stats in LF to prove that he is a great defensive CF. That's completely ignorant.

LOL, Coco Crisp has a horrible arm as well.

if there was no grady sizemore, and crisp would have played centerfield, the position he's played a good portion of his entire career, crisps 300-345-465 season last year in left would translate into being one of the most productive centerfielders in baseball.

there is no reason to pick apart what i said, especially in this instance.

also, im not going to get into silly arguments about coco crisp and scott podsednik because they aren't very similar players nor do i care about proving something so irrelvant.

Ummm now you are changing the argument to offense? I thought we were talking about defensive ability?

And defensively, PODS and Crisp are about as similar as it gets statistically.

Oh and those offensive numbers you posted. Crisp would still be behind Damon, DeJesus, and Sizemore.

i have seen enough of johnny damon in centerfield to know who i'd rather want manning the position at fenway, and that person is coco crisp.

i'm not doing any such thing, by the way, but continue putting words in my mouth. its what i expect of you.
