Red Sox offer Manny trade to Angels

The Boston Red Sox also made another strong push to trade disgruntled slugger Manny Ramirez to the Angels this past week, but talks bogged down again, with the Angels balking at Boston's asking price.

Boston was believed to have asked for at least four players — Ervin Santana, utility player Chone Figgins and two or three of the Angels' top four prospects, a list that includes shortstop Brandon Wood and second baseman Howie Kendrick. The Red Sox also wanted the Angels to assume virtually all of the $57 million remaining on Ramirez's contract, which runs through 2008.

"Hey Angels, you can have 33 year old Manny but you have to give us Figgins, Santana, and two of your best prospects... oh, and you have to eat Manny's entire contract. Deal?"

"Hello... hello?"

Wow, they're dumbasses.

Thank God Theo's back!!!!

sounds like a trade you'd push through for your team in a video game...

How does that make sense when he was put on the waivers or whatevr just a couple seasons ago when any team could of got him by just picking up his contract.... now they want 2 really good young players and 2 awesome prospects and the team to pickup the whole contract...

Obviously a joke of a trade offer, but could one phatom Manny and Vlad back to back?? And people thought Manny/Ortiz was a dangerous....chit, they'd easily have over 300 rbi's between the two of them

If anyone had genuinely tried to pick Manny up on waivers he would have just been pulled off of waivers by the BoSox. The whole waiver trading deadline system is a joke. All that him being put on waivers meant was that the BoSox were able to try to trade him for another month if any genuine offers came along.

Usually what happens is teams put almost everyone on waivers. If another team makes a waiver claim on that player, the team that has him pulls the guy back. The only reason why any team makes a claim on someone though is to try to make sure that the guy isn't traded for something that would help an opponent. Heck I think the Sox tried to put Buehrle on waivers last year before calling him back if Memory serves.

Most teams get to a point where they only put in claims on players who they genuinely don't want to see moving, because they might want to trade someone in August a few years later and they don't want another team holding a grudge against them.

The offer was a terrible deal for Anaheim obviously by the way.

Nope. He was placed on irrevocable(sp?) waivers meaning if someone picked him up then he was a goner.

Theo forgot that the Red Sox already used their "you have to give us what we want" card on the Marlins when they got Beckett.

Two years ago Manny was owed $100M now he is owed $60M. His production has not tapered off so he is close to worth it.

He still had the RBI's but didnt his avg. go down a lot last season.... overall it was a great season but it wasnt as good as a couple of his last seasons.

You're forgetting Manny has the 10-5 veto. He can block any deal. He said he'd do so unless BOTH his options for 2009 and 2010 (20M each) were picked up.

Wow, I wouldn't trade Brandon Wood straight up for Manny.

For the price of one dollar.

no crack or any of the other childish remarks hold any backing - this was simply made public to appease manny and his agent.

That makes a lot more sense than the offer itself.

If you don't want to hear childish remarks about your beloved Red Sox, you can always post at a Red Sox message board like Sons of Sam Horn. This is a White Sox board, in case you didn't know.

Theo's back :lolhitting
