You don't go acquire a new bullpen when your bullpen dominated last year just because you THINK they might go back to the way they played in past seasons. We have Bmac if any of the one falter. Do you really think they are going to match their performances from last season this year? They could be good but there's no way I see them matching their stats from last season. No, but they've said they do want him pitching 100+ innings. Toss in 200+ innings from Vazquez as opposed to the 128 from El Duque...and there's a lot fewer innings being tossed by those bullpen guys. That's taking into account all the starters stay healthy. Odds are one of the at the very least will miss a few starts, moving BMac to the rotation, and weaking the bullpen. SSH2005 Posted March 11, 2006 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Facing the backups to backups, Javier Lopez gave up four runs in the ninth inning against the Giants today. Lopez had recently taken over as the favorite to become the second lefty in the White Sox pen, but this might even things up again. Armando Almanza and Paulino Reynoso are also in the running, and there's a chance the White Sox will look to add someone at the end of the month. Yes, that is possible...but one of the very nice things about the guys we have is that none of them have had major recent problems with injuries, beyond missing the occasional start. 2 years ago we basically used Mr. "Off day" as our 5th starter. Now we have BMac to back that up. And by having Mac in the bullpen...we can get through those long, extra inning affairs without blowing the whole bullpen out. Â You'll remember there were times last year where we went significant stretches with guys from the bullpen not pitching...Hermanson and Marte in particular. We can weather those stretches unless the worst case scenario of multiple people going down happens, and you just can't keep enough guys on your team to get through that - you can only carry 25 players. That's not the way you run a baseball team. It's not like trying to improve by replacing Carl.  Our top 3 is really good. Jenks, Cotts and Politte. Â Frank was healthy last year? Â My point is you don't try to replace somebody that had a good year last year. If Hermy is healthy, The Top 5 spots you have to stay with. Bmac, Jenks, Cotts, Politte, Hermy. Â If you want to trade for a second lefty that's fine, but I think whoever we pick out of this last group will be able to get lefties out for the most part.
