I was actually looking at tickets tonight. There are still tons of tickets available so i didnt buy anything yet -- but i will soon. I am planning on going to one game and then going up to Cedar Point amusement park the other day. I have never been there but I hear they have some great roller coasters. I might run over to Canton OH to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame (if it is on the way).

I just wish they were playing pittsburgh that tues, wed, thurs before so i could make a whole road trip. But they arn't, oh well.

If you only have a couple of hours to spare before the game, try to get over to the former site of Crosley Field, it is on the near west side of Cincinnati, corner of Findlay and Western. You can MapQuest it to find the actual location.

 

The site has been redeveloped into an industrial park. The Reds played at Crosley Field until 1970 and the ballpark was demolished in 1972.

 

An industrial cleaning supply company building now occupies where the main entrance/grandstand once stood. The old home plate location is marked by a brass placque, although you have to push aside some bushes and hedges to see it. They also have four Crosley Field chairs mounted near the placque.

 

Inside the lobby of the cleaning supply company, there's a wall of pictures depicting the demolition process of the ballpark and construction of their building.

 

The site is just off the main expressway leading into downtown Cincinnati and it's no more than 10-12 minutes from the riverfront and Great American Ball Park.

You do realize how far apart all of those things are, right? You are talking about 3-4 more hours of driving to get to either of them, plus Cedar Point and the football HOF are no where near each other either. Kings Island is in the Cincy area, and woudn't be too far away.

There is no way you can make all of these things in one trip, as Mike said they are nowhere near each other. The first part of your trip planning should be to buy a Rand McNally atlas .

 

Tell the girlfriend you are taking her to a great little city with all kinds of interesting things to do. Look up Mt. Adams, it is a very cool neighborhood near downtown, look up Covington and Newport KY, right across the river from the ballpark. In Newport is Newport Landing, that's a great area that any young woman would like.

 

I suggest the first thing you do is do a search for Cincinnati Visitors Bureau, go to that site, show your girlfriend your research, and you're all set. This strategy has worked for me since 1984.

Cleveland is a great place to see a ballgame, just one piece of advice with you being the crabby old dude that you are ... Don't sit in the LF bleachers, because you will want to kill the guy on the tom-tom by the end of the game. Also there are some solid bars to drink around the area of the ballpark, explore and enjoy, especially because the traffic after a ballgame kinda sucks around there. Wait it out.

Also for those looking for the (20-something) ladies, Longworth Pavilion in the Mt. Adams area. They have three separate bars in that place, take your pick based on what kind of music you like.

 

German food ... Mecklenberg Gardens in the Clifton area.

 

Quick and cheap ... Cincinnati chili ... Goldstar, Skyline, Camp Washington.

 

There is also the Samuel Adams Brewery on Central Parkway, just north of downtown, don't know if they give tours. It used to be the Schoenling Brewery (Little Kings and Hudepohl). 1625 Central Parkway if memory serves.

 

The 12th and Main area is pretty good too right Rock? Neon's, Japps, etc. But don't wander around too far. We love the Barrelhouse Brewery in that area.

Oh yeah. I'll be traveling with two Cub fans so here's the plan:

Sat. the 17th catch the Sox/Reds game in Cincy

Sun. the 18th visit the Rock n Roll hall of fame and maybe the Football HOF, time permitting. Not sure if either place is open on Sun.

Mon. the 19th catch the Indians/Cubs game in Cleve.

 

All within driving distance. The schedules couldn't have been more cooperative.

GREAT picks there. I prefer Goldstar to skyline but to each his own.

 

Longworth is a good joint, there are several bars up there that I used to frequent. You cant really go wrong up there. As long as you try and stay away from the UC area and the west side, everything is pretty good. I like to stay in Newport if im going to be drinking because there are alot of bars in the area, and a Dave and Busters copycat place called Jillians I believe.

 

All in all, Cincy is a great city, I will be there for sure, and I look forward to hanging out at that great stadium. If anyone wants to shoot through Oxford Oh, home of Miami University on the way home, I can provide directions and recommendations.
