March 22, 200620 yr http://sportsline.com/mlb/story/9326258 We're Number One. Indians are #3. This guy eats some crow in his article.
March 22, 200620 yr His rankings are pretty solid. I still think the Yankees are getting ranked too high.
March 22, 200620 yr I can appreciate when someone admits they were wrong shows some class unlike others in the media.

March 22, 200620 yr QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) I don't think they should be ranked over Oakland or the Angels. The Angels? What have they done to truely improve their team? As a vivid Yankee hater, I'll still say that they have one of the better offenses in baseball, and their staff as a whole should suck less than last year. They should be ranked in the top 5 on any power rankings.

As a vivid Yankee hater, I'll still say that they have one of the better offenses in baseball, and their staff as a whole should suck less than last year. They should be ranked in the top 5 on any power rankings. The best offense in baseball, and one of the worst all around pitching staffs in baseball. I would not be surprised in the least if the Yankees team ERA is 4.50. Agree on the Angels though - I honestly think they're looking at 3rd place in that division, with one of Texas and Seattle stepping up and finishing in 2nd with Oakland running away.

Johnson and Mussina are a year older. Wright and Pavano are both crippled. They lost their 2nd best bullpen pitcher and replaced him with Kyle Farnworth. March 22, 200620 yr QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) I really, really dont like LAA this year. If Seattle can have Pinero step up, and Moyer just give them one more year, they could finish in 2nd and suprise some people. There are certain moves Bavasi has made that I just absolutely hate(for instance, resigning Ibanez...journeymen Joe Blow can come in and put up .280 20 80 .800 for you, and there are always bargains to be had and players to be traded for that have little to no value but have a high ceiling(JOBO))...but I really like the direction that team is moving. If Beltre looks anything during the year like he did in the WBC, watch the f*** out on the west coast. I too think they are going to surprise a lot of people this year...very solid, underrated team all-around.
March 22, 200620 yr Y'all sleepin' on the Angels. Colon, Lackey, Weaver, Santana, and Escobar make up a very good rotation. Do I even have to mention their bullpen? The offense won't be great, but it doesn't have to be when you can pitch it and catch it like they can.
March 22, 200620 yr lol I like what it says for the Cubs. Mark Prior and Kerry Wood have to start 60 games ... ah, forget it. The Cubs have a better chance of finally winning a World Series before that ever happens. Juan Pierre is the long-sought leadoff man, though.

Ya boy Bloomquist is considered a god in spring training and in AAA and if he makes the team, Seattle will go very far this season. Waiting for posters to rip on me.

I did forget to mention the god of all gods. I figured that was a given, so I didn't need to mention him. Makes Manny Ramirez look like a little leaguer.
March 22, 200620 yr QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) The Royals last? I had them at 4. But what do i know. I agree. Have you seen their spring training record?! It is gonna be a great year in KC!
March 22, 200620 yr QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) The Royals last? I had them at 4. But what do i know. I would be willing to bet the Royals will not be in last place in the ALC this year. I think they may finish as high as 3rd, in fact, but will probably end up 4th. And MIN is going to disappoint a lot of people.

I think they may finish as high as 3rd, in fact, but will probably end up 4th. And MIN is going to disappoint a lot of people. I'll take you up on that bet. First of all, I don't think Minnesota will be all that great, but with their pitching staff, I'll be shocked if they finish under .500. And the Tigers should be improved this year. Sorry, but the addition of a few average veterans won't make a ton of difference to a 106 loss team. They'll be a little better, but they'll also stay in the cellar.

OK, you're on - KC will not finish in last place in the division in 2006. Um... what are we betting? One of those sig bets people do? Or just a gentlemen's bet that we remember at the end of the year? I think MIN will be a bit under .500, and I think DET will finish last. KC will beat out DET and, possibly, give MIN a run for 3rd place. CLE will finish 2nd, no surprise there, but I think they will not be as good as last year. I don't see a wild card from the Central.

How are the Yankees a Top 5 team when their top two starters are WAY past their primes, Wright is never healthy, and the younger ones (Chacon, Small, and Wang) have never thrown 120 innings in the big leagues? And outside of the aging Rivera, their bullpen is wretched. Besides a healthy Pavano, there's little reason to be optimistic about this pitching staff. To be a Top 5 team, you need Top 5 pitching. The Yankees didn't have it last year and are even worse off now. Edited March 22, 200620 yr by WCSox

Well last time I checked Id consider the yanks a top 5 team last season.

After all, look at the regular season standings and number of playoff appearances in the recent past, then look at the Yankees overall pitching stats.

Well last time I checked Id consider the yanks a top 5 team last season. So, the Yankees were better than the White Sox, Angels, Astros, Cardinals, and Braves last season? I'm not even sure that they were better than the Red Sox or Indians. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Thats far from being true. After all, look at the regular season standings and number of playoff appearances in the recent past, then look at the Yankees overall pitching stats. It's a lot easier to win 95 games when your schedule includes numerous "gimme" games against Tortonto, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. The Yankees (or Red Sox) weren't as good as what their regular-season records suggested and were exposed big-time in the playofs. Johnson, their leader in regular-season ERA, got tatooed (6.14 ERA) in the ALDS. Mussina (5.40 ERA) wasn't much better. Oh, and their bullpen was awful as well. (Keep in mind that this was against an Angels offense that aveaged 2.2 runs/game in the ALCS.) And the vaunted Yankees offense averaged a mediocre 4.0 runs/game. Sorry, but that's not a Top 5 team in my book. EDIT: Upon further review, I suppose that it's not really necessary for a Top 5 team to have Top 5 pitching. A good example would be the '97 Indians. (Of course, they also played in a weak division and didn't get hot until late in the season.) My point was that one typically needs very good pitching to be an elite team.
