March 27, 200620 yr Sean Tracey, Ryan Sweeney, Andy Gonzalez, Armando Almanza, Robert Valido and Gustavo Molina reassigned after today's game. There are 28 guys left in camp.
March 27, 200620 yr And those 28 are: C - Pierzynski, Widger DH - Thome 1B - Konerko, Gload 2B - Iguchi, Cintron SS - Uribe, Ozuna 3B - Crede OF - Podsednik, Anderson, Dye, Mackowiak Pitchers - Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, Vazquez, Jenks, Cotts, Hermanson, Politte, McCarthy, Lopez, Logan, Thornton, Redding, Nomo Nomo will be reassigned or traded for sure, Hermanson goes on the DL. That means Redding or one of the lefties will get shipped out. With the way Gload has performed I think he's made the team. Great spring for Ross Gload. Barring, of course, a last minute trade. Edit: my mistake, I forgot Politte. So I count 29, unless they are assuming Hermanson on the DL already. Edited March 27, 200620 yr by JimH
March 27, 200620 yr Nomo, Redding, Lopez should be the remaining three cut off the roster. Of the three, I'd only bother assigning Lopez to Charlotte. I've seen enough of Nomo's BP fastball, and Redding's rolling curveball.
March 27, 200620 yr It's very impolite of you to have forgotten Clifford. Took me a minute to figure out why it seemed like you could keep both Logan and Lopez.

I've seen enough of Nomo's BP fastball, and Redding's rolling curveball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed, Lopez has some value as a backup LOOGY to Logan. Nomo and Redding are pretty much trash.
March 27, 200620 yr Assuming they give Thornton a spot, which I believe they will, it means one of Lopez, Logan, or Redding make the team. Also assuming 11 pitchers. Since Thornton is the garbage innings guy, it appears there's no spot for Redding. If that's the case it comes down to Logan or Lopez. Edited March 27, 200620 yr by JimH

March 27, 200620 yr Indeed, and it looks like it will be "The Legend of Boone Logan" barring a complete collapse in the remaining ST games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tend to agree with you. Just for discussion, I wonder if they are thinking they'd like to keep Javier Lopez for a month or so and see what they've really got, and option Boone Logan out. It might not be the most fair solution, but maybe it's the easiest? I can pretty much guarantee that it's being discussed.
March 27, 200620 yr Is anybody just relieved that we've got some decent options going into the season? I was scared that none of the guys we brought in were gonna do jack.
March 27, 200620 yr They need to cut Redding, Nomo, and Logan... LOGAN IS NOT READY!!! He's going to end up being Arnie Munoz'd and lose his confidence forever!
March 27, 200620 yr Jeff Nelson just got released by the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a good spring too.
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) They need to cut Redding, Nomo, and Logan... LOGAN IS NOT READY!!! He's going to end up being Arnie Munoz'd and lose his confidence forever! And this opinion is based on?
March 27, 200620 yr Jeff Nelson just got released by the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a good spring too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Latest News Mar. 26, 2006 - 8:58 pm et Cardinals released RHP Jeff Nelson. A shocker. Nelson apparently struggled in a minor league game last week, but he had allowed one hit over 5 1/3 scoreless innings in major league games. His phone will probably be ringing off the hook for the next couple of days. Nelson's departure appears to clear the way for Josh Hancock to win a bullpen spt. Source: Cardinals.mlb.com SIGN HIM NOW. PERIOD. Edited March 27, 200620 yr by SSH2005
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) SIGN HIM NOW. PERIOD. Would he have to clear any kinda waivers?
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) And this opinion is based on? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Never pitched above A ball....
March 27, 200620 yr Speaking of relievers is Williamson still on the block... He might be worth a couple of prospects to the cubs...
March 27, 200620 yr Nelson is a free agent and can sign anywhere. Quickman is on the phone with him as we speak.
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Never pitched above A ball.... Well, he's done whats been asked of him so far. If he does struggle, I hardly think he will, as you say, lose his confidence forever. Edited March 27, 200620 yr by Jordan4life_2006
March 27, 200620 yr Would he have to clear any kinda waivers? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope, the Cardinals only had Nelson signed to a minor league deal. He should be a free agent right now.
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) Nelson is a free agent and can sign anywhere. Quickman is on the phone with him as we speak. Alright then. I wasn't sure.
March 27, 200620 yr QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Never pitched above A ball.... He's also the best option we have.
March 27, 200620 yr I would sign Nelson, send Ozuna to AAA, and then try to slip Thornton through waivers to AAA later in the season and bring Ozuna back up.
March 27, 200620 yr Speaking of relievers is Williamson still on the block... He might be worth a couple of prospects to the cubs... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I read that he's not on the block anymore. He also had to leave today's game after three pitches because of a lower back strain. Jeff Nelson (ST stats): 5.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 7 K, 0.00 ERA
