If I'm not mistaken, this comparison has already been made on this board. Mr. Roeper presents it like an original idea, but I have my doubts.

You are correct and it's not the first time Roeper does that either. I know he's a huge fan, he might read this board.

I think either Mr. Incredible or lumberjack would be a good nickname of Jim Thome. That guy is amazing.

I started this thread a while back. And honestly, I am sure others noticed the same thing quite a while ago too. Roeper is just a little behind the times.

his article is mostly garbage, but I do like one point he makes. Thome may eventually, or already be one of the most popular players in the whole city. The guy is great on the field and off. This is the biggest market he has played in, and he is prospering.

The only surprise in Roeper's response to you was that he didn't give exact numbers of articles and columns.

I have corresponded with Roeper for years and highly, highly doubt he saw that here and then stole it. If he did see it here, he would have said that's where he got the idea--he's more than willing to give others credit for funny ideas (I've made it into his column a few times).

Anyway, since the idea seems to be well-received among all here, why not. I wish I knew how to poll. I'd say if you got us and WSI to give it the thumbs up, well then: Bob's your uncle!

The Thome/Mr. Incredible was on WSI. That's where I got the picture from.

They've got it backwards. Mr. Incredible is Jim Thome. After all, Thome was there first.
