June 10, 200619 yr Quotes from Whitesox.com "Basically, I was getting tired of hearing, 'Why aren't you as good as you were last year?'" Garland said. "It just gets old. "I probably am just as good as I have been in the past years. It's one of those things where the little things just aren't happening." "I do. I understand." "You win a World Series and myself, go out and win 18 games, and of course the fans want to see it every game and want you to win every single game and shut a team down. "Basically, that's impossible. The expectations are there and they are even higher now that we've won. It's not going to go anywhere as long as I'm in this game." Personally I think he should shut his mouth and throw the ball better. You aren't throwing the ball well, so man up and do better. Quit being a crybaby.
June 10, 200619 yr He needs to pitch better and win games. That's what the big leagues are all about and what he is getting paid to do. I still have faith in Jon Garland and his ability to be a winner, but I want to see it happen now.
June 10, 200619 yr Garland has issues, he can't handle criticism. Ignore everyone and work on improving your mechanics, Judy...err Jon.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Aboz made better posts in '05. I liked the '05 Aboz better.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) Aboz made better posts in '05. I liked the '05 Aboz better. I liked the Aboz of 04 better
June 10, 200619 yr :headshake Honestly Jon, either start pitching like you did in 2005, or shut the f*** up.
June 10, 200619 yr Jon, the critics in this case are entirely under your control. Pitch better, and the critics will shut up. Until you pitch better, you ought to do the same.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(Balance @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Jon, the critics in this case are entirely under your control. Pitch better, and the critics will shut up. Until you pitch better, you ought to do the same. That's pretty much what Ozzie said, too. ******************************************************************** But Guillen also had a very pointed response for Garland's comments in regard to not wanting to hear how he wasn't as good as last year. "Well, he isn't, but he should prove you guys wrong," Guillen said. "Garland is frustrated? So are we. We expect a lot from him. "I don't expect him to win 20 games. I don't expect him to win all his games. I expect him to every time go out and throw the ball better." ******************************************************************** I love Ozzie. Another manager would be all "Oh, Jon's just had a few bad innings, he really is as good as he ever was, blah blah blah." Not our Ozzie! Garland's making way too much money to be pouting about media questions. Contrast that to Anderson, who's making way less and being very cool about all the sh*t he's getting from reporters.
June 10, 200619 yr lol this is his first rant..... if it was a common thing id agree with everyone telling Garland to shutup but maybe you all should get off his back a little. Right now he isnt pitching as well and he isnt getting lucky bounces..... but he will pick it up. If anyone was expecting him to win 18 games than you deserve to be dissapointed.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) If anyone was expecting him to win 18 games than you deserve to be dissapointed. Never mind the 18 wins, I'd be happy if he'd quit feeding that damn gopher.
June 10, 200619 yr :headshake No-Trade Clause this year right? Just checking. If Little Jonny can't handle criticism, he shouldn't be playing. It comes with the territory.
June 10, 200619 yr "Basically, I was getting tired of hearing, 'Why aren't you as good as you were last year?'" Garland said. "It just gets old." Wrong, Jon. The problem isn't that you're failing to repeat last season. The problem is that you're pitching like Jamie Navarro. You're ranked 43rd in the league in ERA among starters and first in HRs allowed, for Chrissake! And you have a problem with the criticism??? :headshake
June 10, 200619 yr I backed Garland....now Jon, go make me and TRU and Murcie proud and start kicking ass again (1 game at a time).
June 10, 200619 yr Jon just pitch inside more and not up and over the plate.Jon this is what happens when you win 18 games and the World Series, people expect you to go out and pitch the way you did last year or close to it.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) :headshake Honestly Jon, either start pitching like you did in 2005, or shut the f*** up. ^^^^

June 10, 200619 yr Oh yeah??? Well, I'm tired of HIM, TOO!!! But seriously, wasn't this the guy who basically admitted that he's lost the confidence to pitch inside on hitters? If he himself says he's not doing the same things he did last year. why can't anyone else say the same thing? A few quality starts in a row would go a long way to quieting the critics, Jon.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Quotes from Whitesox.com Personally I think he should shut his mouth and throw the ball better. You aren't throwing the ball well, so man up and do better. Quit being a crybaby. Exactly. If Garland pitches better, he won't hear the comments critical of his performance. Quite a concept, huh ?
June 10, 200619 yr It sounds like denial to me. The bottom line is he is not even close to his career averages; we expected some regression, but not this much.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) I backed Garland....now Jon, go make me and TRU and Murcie proud and start kicking ass again (1 game at a time). You can add me to those names. He really needs to start pitching better... a lot better.
June 10, 200619 yr Poor Jon. He signs a 3 year $29 million contract, and the fans expect him to produce. I'm crying for him.
June 10, 200619 yr QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Poor Jon. He signs a 3 year $29 million contract, and the fans expect him to produce. I'm crying for him. Me too.... Jon, word to the wise....Shut the f*** up and pitch....you want to silence the media, do it with your arm. Prove that we should not have a thing to b**** about.... Be a mere shadow of the JG of '05 and we'll be satisfied...
