He's throwing strikes so far and not putting guys on via the walk -- which is more than can be said for Garland in the early innings yesterday. Most of the hits were bloop little b**** hits in this game.

Was Hernandez that much worse than Vasquez that we had to give up Chris Young to get him?

He has the stuff to be a #1, but pitches like a #5. The inconsistency is maddening.

 

 

He just needs to make better pitches on 0-2. He gets ahead, then throws a rolling curve on 2 strikes. If he used his slider more on 2 strikes he probably would get a lot more outs. Instead he relies on his curve, when catches way too much of the plate and he gets hurt. Its a small adjustment.

If memory serves me correctly, we normally get maddux the second time through the lineup.

There wasn't a hard hit ball that inning. The frustrating thing with Javy is he has the stuff, he lacks the proper mind set out there.

Let's see if he can battle through 6 like Garland did .
