Because he's a very bad pitcher and his record is incredibly misleading much like a lot of starting pitcher's W/L record. Freddy Garcia is BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD . . . and so on.

agreed garcia is "teh sux"

I will be very, very upset to see Uribe in a sox uni next year. Him, podsednik, and Garcia all have to go, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

And to the original post, I think gooch needs to move down in the lineup to like no. 8. He is a good hitter and all, but strikes out way too much for the two hole. Sweeney and Rollins would be a pretty sweet way to start of the lineup next year.

If you remember with Iguchi during ST they tried moving him down the order so he could drive in more runs, but he just didn't hit well in that spot.

I don't know if they would try it again, but if they brought in a new leadoff and / or #2 hitter, then yeah they could try it again I suppose.

On Uribe, would you rather a SS with the same defensive ability who could hit for less power, but hit for a higher average, because I think that would fit better into our lineup. We've got enough power hitters already with the likes of Dye, Kong and Thome, and when you have guys like BA, Pods etc who when they go into slumps, the lineup doesn't look as deep.

Lies, you know deep down inside, you want his 5.09 ERA and 33 homers allowed. You know you want it.

Wasn't that a brutal trade for Theo Epstein or what.

Anibal Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez say hi Rowand BTW. :D

I suppose with Uribe, the fact that he has gotten worse offensively over a 3 year period is a major cause for concern.

I mean Ozzie goes off at Brian Anderson with how he has hit, yet he's in his 1st major league season. Shouldn't Uribe get the same treatment, or is that because he's got the experience at the major league level?

It's most likely due to the fact that Ozzie has his head up his ass. :D

This thread is gonna reach 20 pages now that you brought up Anderson. :headbang

Like I said earlier in this thread, it depends. If we're expecting our 9 hitter to hit higher than 235 and have a slugging percentage that doesn't indicate that he's hitting a single each time, then I guess it'd be important for our 8 hitter to get on base more. As it is, with a 225-230 hitter with little power batting 9th, I'll take the 8 hitter with the higher isolated power considering he has jacks*** hitting behind him(including the leadoff spot at this point). Holy s***, I just made an argument for Uribe without mentioning defense.

edit: to be completely honest, Uribe is disappointing me more than any other player on this team, pitching staff included. the last quarter of the year last year(playoffs included), he was great, his approach was great, he probably drew more walks in the last month or two of the season than any other player on the team, he seemed like a player who got it when no one else did. I was expecting this year to be a career year for him by far, he's essentially 'regressed' to the same exact player he was overall last year offensively with worse discipline. That bothers me, but f*** yeah I'd give him another season. He's somewhat expendable, but not nearly as expendable as everyone in the universe is making him out to be.

Red Sox fans are now spinning the trade becuase supposedly some asshole putting out a book claims he was in the room with that other dude (Lucchino?) was in charge, and he made the trade.

Of course Theo was never really "gone" from the Red Sox, and if he didn't approve of the Beckett trade, why did he give him that $30 million extension?

Think they could have used Arroyo this year instead of Wily Mo?

With all due respect some of you sometimes think you know soo much and won't

accept anybody else's take.

OK so Fred is 14-9 instead of 14-6.

The guy just flirted with a f***ing perfect game.

But you think he's finished, he's toast. Think about what he did LAST YEAR.

Sometimes I think you guys think the Sox will someday get 5 superior starters.

Name one f***ing team in baseball with 5 superior starters???

Freddie Garcia is NOT a stiff.

Sox fans are starting to remind me of fans of some college teams that act like

their team is the ONLY one out there.

My god. Freddie Garcia will have a job on any staff in baseball, why not ours???

Freddy's one month with an ERA below 4.00, and his one month with a WHIP below 1.40 disagree with the fact that he is a stiff.

He's been awful this year. Any argument against it is, well, dumb. He's won games, but s***, if I got 8 runs a game or whatever Freddy's getting, and I could throw a mediocre fastball, a mediocre curve, and a mediocre change, I would win 14 games too.

And Freddy is not going to have a job on the Sox staff next year because McCarthy can put up numbers just as good, if not better, for much, much, much less money than Garcia is making this year. Simple as that. If he were making $4 mill a year, he'd be great...at the $10 mill he's making next year? HAIL NO

Podsednik had a very good year offensively in 2004. Why not next year? Why not on our sox? What is your point that he just flirted with a perfect game. There have been no names that have thrown no-hitters. If a guy that is making ten million dolllars a year to post a era hovering around 5 he is indeed a stiff. Garcia is capable of an era in the hige threes... consistently if he throws how he should. But he rather pitch for a couple years longer... and into make less money when it is said and done.

There is a very good chance he does not come out strong in his next start. Nothing suggests to me that he will.

Because he's a bad pitcher?

Player A:

25 GS | 4.84 ERA | 1.31 WHIP | .262 BAA | 27 HR

Player B:

30 GS | 4.82 ERA | 1.33 WHIP | .275 BAA | 31 HR

Player C:

27 GS | 4.66 ERA | 1.39 WHIP | .283 BAA | 28 HR

Player D:

30 GS | 5.09 ERA | 1.31 WHIP | .246 BAA | 33 HR

4 pretty damn similar pitchers one of which is Freddy Garcia the other 3? Let's just say they're pitchers that you wouldn't necessarilly call good. This is the same Garcia who has mysteriously lost around 6-8 MPH on his fastball over 1 offseason, has shown up teammates, said he only pitches well in "big games", has sucked in "big games" and has posted monthly splits that are consistently bad, showing no signs of improvement.

April: 5.86 ERA | 1.59 WHIP | .259 BAA

May: 3.70 ERA | 1.11 WHIP | .280 BAA

June: 4.81 ERA | 1.43 WHIP | .279 BAA

July: 5.52 ERA | 1.48 WHIP | .295 BAA

Aug: 5.72 ERA | 1.40 WHIP | .299 BAA

If Scott Podsednik were a pitcher he'd be Freddy Garcia, except I've never seen Podsednik show up a teammate.

I saw signs of improvement. May through augusts his era went upwards.

oh god, how did we get to both Brian Anderson and Freddy Garcia in this thread? Anyone with a brain knows Freddy aint that good and Brian Anderson ain't that good yet, what the f*** do they have to do with Juan Uribe who should be good now. Seriously, this is like making a royce clayton thread and having people talk about kenny lofton and terry mullholland. save it.
