Luckily I was right about Gavin Floyd and I still think Floyd is going to be the ace of the Sox staff. He's so f***ing good and I love his ability to go deep into games.

Sorry, but what?

I agree that Floyd is an above average pitcher, but you do realize his ERA is nearly 4.5 this year... right? And yes, I know he had a nice stretch where his ERA was below 1.5 and he was dominating, but to be "so f***ing good" you need to be "so f***ing good" for the entire season, not short stretches. I like Gavin as a middle of the rotation guy, but he's as overrated as they come on these boards.

I realize this isn't the time or thread for this sort of thing, but it had to be said.

Ted Lilly might be the only Hendry signing in the past few years where he has gotten bang for his buck.

Short stretches= majority of season.

I think Gavin will improve a bit more, and at the end of the day be a solid 3rd starter. Nothing wrong with that (especially with the fair contract he signed for), but I agree he's a bit overrated around here.

Everyone knows I'm in this boat as I wasn't too comfortable even after he retired the first 9 hitters tonight. I noticed the caption on whitesox.com said "Gavin pitched an effective 7 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs." Huh?

He also was the MVP of the game according to WGN

God.

Thome was the man tonight. Anderson made the game a little more comfortable early on and Beckham was a fantasy stud.

That was laughable. At the time they named Gavin MVP in honor of his mediocre, innings eating performance (the 8th inning), Bacon was clearly the MVP. He had an atrocious 9th inning though, so I'm not sure who the actual MVP should have been at the end of the game. Probably Thome, although that 3 run double was just Twins luck being on our side for once.

That and the Twins defense looking like s*** tonight...

The Twins are actually not all that good of a defensive team this year. Combine that with the fact that our team is a lot better built to play at the dome now, and we should be able to at least tread water up there.

Believe it or not, before this season, Soriano's been a pretty good defensive left fielder for the Nationals and Cubs.

He's been among league leaders in both Plus/Minus and UZR. Beats me.

I just think that bum knee and his bad offensive performance is affecting his fielding.

UZR is total bulls***. His numbers are skewed due to his throwing arm. Everyone knows that Brian Anderson is better defensively than Dewayne Wise and yet his UZR rating is worse than Wise's. I'm all for sabermetrics but you can't say that Alfonso Soriano is a good left fielder because of his UZR.

Danks is the future ace. I'm not sure how anyone can even argue with that.

Not completely true...

Plus/Minus, which does not take arm strength into consideration, rated Soriano as one of the best left fielders while he was with Washington and in 2007 with the Cubs.

He had a +15 in 2007 as a Cub.

I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the same this year.

UZR might be wrong at times, but you really can't complain when Plus/Minus also correlates with UZR.

BTW, how did all these Sox Twins posts get into the Cubs thread...?
