R.I.P. Brad Delp

Featured Replies

I still turn up most of their songs when I come accross them on the radio. My older brother got the first album for his birthday in 7th grade and played it constantly. RIP.

Long live Sib.

Hell of a vocal talent.

RIP

Wow. :o

I was never the biggest Boston fan but Delp was one of rock's great vocalist for sure.

I heart Boston... this is surprising to me.

More than a Feeling is the first song that actually "spoke" to me. I think it was the first album that actually caught my pre-pubescent attention and made me think about what was being said in the song.

RIP Brad Delp

ps. Havent they been touring with an alternate lead singer for a while?

I loved Boston. Delp had a very distictive voice and Tom Scholz gave them a very distinct style. I put Delp in a category with Geddy Lee and Steve Perry in terms of recognizable vocals.

After reading this I went back and looked up Boston. I had no idea Scholz released two additional albums, Walk On and Corporate America under the Boston name.

I knew Delp and Barry Goudreau released an album under the name Return to Zero, but I guess they released three. Didn't know that either.

Guess I needed to keep up a little better.

The one thing about creating music is that once the creators are gone, the music remains. Boston will always be around in my head.

I'm saddened by this. I wore my Boston shirt not too long ago; from their Third Stage album.

They had planned on a summer tour. Not only that but Delp was planning to wed during days off from the tour.

R.I.P :pray

Turns out he committed suicide.

He locked himself in a bathroom with two charcoal grills going.

Weird way to do it.... :huh

He apparently taped two notes to the bathroom door. No word from police on what the notes said.

What a sad story.

...with two charcoal grills? What does that do? Who the hell comes up with that way to kill themselves? I know...the Boston singer...but that's just friggin' weird!

Probably rivals even Jim Elliot's asphyxiation by moped in the garage farewell stunt.

Very sad nonetheless.

"I've had it, life sucks...pass me the Weber!"

Sad, but there are going to be sooooooo many jokes about this one.

He grilled himself.

If your dumb enough to kill yourself in that wild a fashion, your asking for and deserve all the jokes.

"Smoking in the boys room.........."

"Smokin'" was one of the big songs off teh debut album actually.

By all accounts, Delp was about the nicest guy you could ever know, so it's really doubly-sad.

"(Smile for me, daddy.) What you looking at?

(I wanna see your grill). You wanna see my what?

(Your grill, your your your grill). Then rob the [hardware] store and tell them make me a grill. "

Charcoal Grills, and other popular forms of suicide are covered here http://www.satanservice.org/coe/suicide/metaguide.html

Great wiki at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charcoal-burning_suicide

IIRC the nurse of killed a bunch of people in NY tried to commit suicide with a charcoal grill but failed.

Start humming the M*A*S*H theme

Through early morning fog I see

visions of the things to be

the pains that are withheld for me

I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN]:

that suicide is painless

It brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make

all our little joys relate

without that ever-present hate

but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play

I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat

And lay it down before I'm beat

and to another give my seat

for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me

to answer questions that are key

is it to be or not to be

and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless

it brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

There's no songs I like more than "More Than a Feeling" and "Peace of Mind." I know those are popular answers but those two were what got me hooked onto Boston.

I agree, although the first two albums are solid throughout. Lots of great songs there.

"More Than A Feeling" still takes me back to my teenage years - EARLY teen years, but teenage nonetheless...
