He didnt even come close to hitting his foot.

Part of me thinks Gardy was just pissed at himself for not walking PK to get to AJ in the first place, instead of letting PK get the 2 run single.

 

In the end, the situation was blown WAY out of proportion (suprise, suprise).

I'm going by what Morneau said. I think the first time AJ grounded out he clipped him, and the second time he grounded into the DP he came close again. Wheteher he did or not I really don't give a s***. But whatever he did, he fired up that team. I wish we had half the heart the Twins show when they play.

I love this whole "fired up" the Twins concept. Gardy ranting and raving like an idiot, over something that was blown out of proportion, "fired them up"? The only thing it did was make him look like a tool...

 

I think bad pitching decisions, coupled with some botched plays in the field, put them in a position to capitalize. Torii getting the Metro-bounce didn't hurt matters either.

 

I don't buy this, "they were angry therefore they played better baseball" crap, because it is just that...crap.

 

The Sox played a bad game yesterday, coupled with poor managerial decisions in regards to pitching...no more, no less. We didn't get beat because they have more heart....or because they were more fired up by Porneau almost having his foot stepped on.

Whatever. I'm not gonna get into an argument with you about it. I believe he did something, and it was bush league. He had the whole bag to hit, and he came close to hitting Morneau's foot twice. You can really injure someone that way. If it was the other way around and someone like AJ did that to PK then everyone would be up in arms.

Gardenhire indeed did look like a tool at the time, but he looked a lot better after his team stomped the Sox in the bottom half of that inning.

 

I was hoping for another bench-clearing brawl to light a fire under the collective ass of the listless, under-achieving Sox, even if it means Ozzie making an ass of himself (and, historically, he's been pretty good at that). This team is doing nothing but going through the motions right now and I'm sick of it.

I agree that Minnesota plays with a zeal--with our without the Morneau incident--that makes us look like old men.

 

It's like 2004 all over again. They just chop away and chop away and smallball us to death, or then big bat us to death. While shutting down our hitters.

 

People forget that the 2005 Sox were basically our attempt to be the Twins. Seems we've gotten far away from that.

The real game isn't like a video game. People's emotions come into play. Gardy was trying to fire up his team, and it looks like it worked.

After watching the replay and watching a couple other outs he recorded against other teams, AJ was uncharacteristically to the inside of 1st. What I wonder is why he would risk injury to himself. I think at best it was just a little nudge at an old friend and as we always say, AJ being AJ. I think he did try and plant his foot close to, but not touching as he went by.

Getting into a fist-fight/brawl doesn't make any of them better baseball players, nor do I believe that does anything for chemistry. Case in point, the Cubs last year. After the AJ incident, based upon the same theory, they would have been fired up to kick some ass and turn the ship around. Instead, they got worse and went on to win 66 games last year. They then went on to fight everything, including inanimate objects and it still did them no good.

 

While I do agree, at times, this team looks as though they are going through the motions. But what do we know? Are we in the locker room? Do we talk to them every day, getting them to tell us they don't want to try to win, or they don't care if they win? I doubt it.

 

The point is, you are either good at baseball, or you aren't. Right now, this team isn't. Part of it is talent lacking areas we need to stay consistent, the other part is poor decision making in times that seem to be obvious to everyone but the man pulling the trigger.

 

Hopefully, because things can turn around quickly, this team can put some of this recent misfortune behind them and start playing like they are capable of.

Gardy was also trying to yell at the Ump and tell him to stop telling his bench to quit yelling at AJ. Apparently the 1st base ump made the "fingers across the throat" gesture to get them to quit yelling at him after the incident. He seemed to be pretty pissed about that.
