2007 MLB Amateur Draft Thread

I'm really starting to get Nick Schmidt vibes. I just have a feeling he will fall to the Sox and I'd probably be the only happy/satisfied person here.

I'm hoping Schmidt and Burgess are taken before us so we're not tempted into selected them.

I want Burgess or Jackson dammit!

BA projects him as a #3 pitcher. So I dunno if that's the type of high upside guy the Sox are looking for.

My top 5, in order-Porcello, Main, Savery, Harvey, Borbon.

I'll be very upset. Especially if pitchers with higher ceilings remain. Please, draft gods, have him off the board by #25.

1. David Price-Tampa Bay

2. Mike Moustakas-Kansas City

3. Josh Vitters-Chicago Cubs

4. Daniel Moskos-Pittsburgh

5. Matt Wieters-Baltimore

6. Ross Detwiler-Washington

7. Matt LaPorta-Milwaukee

8. Casey Weathers-Colorado

9. Jarrod Parker-Arizona

10. Madison Bumgarner-San Francisco

11. Phillippe Aumont-Seattle

12. Matt Dominguez-Florida

13. Beau Mills-Cleveland

14. Jason Heyward-Atlanta

15. Devin Mesoraco-Cinncinati

Not only Porcello, but for Main or Smoker. Perhaps Matt Harvey.

It'd be devastating if we miss our projected player because of one more victory than the the preceding team. That's why I said before, any victory made after we were out of contention last season is one less opportunity to draft our player. Look at 2002 and Cole Hamels; we selected right afterwards. Draft position is huge, and can easily change a team's future.

How do you know the Sox were even targeted Cole?

Draft position in the MLB draft is not huge as evident by the number of flops in the early rounds and successful players who come after the second round or so.

Give it a rest already.

If you aren't rooting for the major league team to win, you aren't a fan of the major league team.

Isnt there usually more pitchers taken in the first round?

I haven't paid a ton of attention to the high school guys but Ahren's name is new to me. Is he a reach?

id rather see bourbons teammate arencibia than him

Texas prolly goes with a signable guy right here, so that with the 24th pick they can grab Porcello and break my heart.

He wasn't in PG Crosschecker's first round mock draft, so I'd say yes.

Also, folks, be prepared for Porcello to go off the board here. Texas has $$$ (duh).

You are building yourself up to get hurt if you are rooting for Porcello.

Do you guys think that Porcello goes here to Texas?

Blake Beavan. Not a bad pick. His delivery reminds me of Jake Peavy.

I've never been a fan of his delivery, so I'm glad Texas has selected him over Main or Porcello.

I bet Porcello goes to Texas at 24. Or to the Yankees.

Beavan woohoo! Porcello still possible...

Isn't Porcello in the Boras stable?

They have additional compensation picks, so if Porcello is the pick they're not guranteeing much money for later picks. I'm hoping San Diego and San Francisco have similar reasons for not throwing 8 million at Porcello.

porcello is a boras client, probably isn't a coincedence he's fallen this far into the first round, even if he was available at 25, i dont see KW dealing with boras
