I think Masset will be a good starter. He is just one of those guys who doesn't do well as a short reliever. When he gets to pitch a longer outing, where he can approach it like a starter and use all of his pitches he does well.

 

I would like to see Massett get some starts with Contreras on the DL. And I would like to see Floyd and how much he has progressed if we trade Buerhle. This is Floyds last year with options. Now no matter what people think, the kid has plus plus stuff. His problem is throwing strikes, and his noggin. This year to me was about rebuilding Floyd from the mental side, and getting him to throw strikes. I would like to see now what we have, and if it can project to be a decent starter.

If we put Gio or Floyd into the rotation, it would be a lot more interesting than seeing Contreras throw 87 mph with no command and 1/10th the forkball he used to have. Could it be that Contreras has the first big money contract that KW messed up on?

Well, Contreras has a no trade clause, a big contract, and every other major league can see that he simply looks terrible on the mound. So I think he'll be difficult to move. The Sox are likely stuck with that albatross of a contract through 2009. Also, I don't think Masset is very good. He has 4 pitches but little control, his fastball is a mediocre 92 MPH and his WHIP is 1.87 and he has more walks than Ks. If the Sox DL Contreras I'd rather see Floyd called up.

I don't think Paulie's contract is that bad. Now, Contreras' and Vazquez's on the other hand will prevent this team from being competitive in '08 and they'll lose Buehrle because of them. If not for Vazquez and Contreras, the rotation in '08 would be:

With all due respect, Masset's fastball pretty much sat at 94 when he started. With that he has a plus curve a decent slider and a change. I think if he becomes a starter you see both his ERA and WHIP drop.

Secondly, I still think its a very high hope to think that Gio will be up next year. He is obviously faring very well in AA, but he needs to hit AAA and play the same way before I believe he is ready. Floyd on the other hand seems to be coming around quite well in AAA.

I couldn't imagine how much blame KW would receive if he had let Konerko go after 2005. When a guy who was as crappy as Rowand was during 2005 is treated like a god, then I don't want to know what people would be saying about Konerko. I have so much respect for Konerko. Besides for participating in my favorite sports moment of my lifetime (slam in game 2), he CHOSE to stay with the White Sox.

Magglio's backloaded contract kinda sucked. $3.75 million in 2001, and $14 million in 2004. He wasn't worth $14 million at the time and the Sox were screwed with compensation picks because there's no way they could guarantee him 80% of $14 million.

The Vazquez contract is easily movable if it came to that to say his deal is going to keep this team from competing is just asinine. How is Masset being in the rotation going to help this team? Floyd or a 21 year old who's repeating AA in Gonzalez? You've got to be s***ting me. It's funny that Javy Vazquez is actually becoming underrated when Nick Masset is being labeled as the superior starting pitcher. Some of you really need to get over one start in perfect weather conditions against a bad Cubs team, he hasn't shown anything positive out of the pen.

If Vazquez stays healthy and posts 4.5 ERAs the contract isn't that bad. And Kalapse is right I think in saying that it could moved pretty easily. The Contreras contract is a different story. I just don't get all the love for Nick Masset. It'd be great if it worked out, but his numbers right now are not good.I have a hard time believing that starting would transform him into a much better pitcher.

The only reason that contract wound up sucking was that Magglio got hurt. If he was healthy, a $14 mil arbitration offer would have been something the Sox would have been more than happy to do, considering that the Tigers paid him $15 mil a year for 5 years that offseason.

f*** it. Close this thread for real. There is nothing positive coming out of this season at all. Bad fielding, baserunning miscues, cant bunt, cant pitch, cant walk, cant score runs. This team is finished. Ive never seen a more weak-willed bunch of players in my life. Oh the bad hitting is contagious huh, well then f***in snap out of it you self concious pieces of crap. Im done, this team is done and if someone doesnt get fired or traded by our next game, our GM is done too.
