Owens sent down

Featured Replies

Hopefully they teach him to take the bat off of his shoulder and swing in Triple A.

AB's before Erstad hurts himself again?

Stay healthy and light it up this weekend and then who cares.

I liked Owens but he is a ways away from being a productive major league hitter.

I don't think Owens is much more than an extra OF

The White Sox will activate Darin Erstad from the DL prior to Friday's game.

Erstad will return as an everyday player, which only makes it more likely that he'll be on the DL again by the All-Star break. Luis Terrero will get fewer at-bats, though he's going to remain an option in left until Scott Podsednik is activated.

:P

Unless the injuries last I do not see him up again until September!

So when he doesn't swing, he should. But when he swings, he's impatient because he doesn't draw walks.

Another guy with a rocky beginning in the majors for the Sox.

Our guys always seem to be fighting uphill battles.

Yea hopefully Fields keeps doing his thing. I forgot what poster said this (Jas?) and I agree completely that he is probably the best potential all-star that we've drafted in a while.

Jerry has a lot of speed, but speed on the base paths is only good if you get on base first. He needs more seasoning for sure.

Josh Fields is beginning to prove the wait and see approach may work.

I really like Jerry Owens, he has a lot of speed which is always fun to watch, but he just needs to learn to get on base. I would take Owens over Pods any day of the week. Although I would like to see Sweeney up here again this year before Owens comes back.

I believe Jerry Owens has ZERO RBIS in 63 mlb at bats.

he has ZERO chance to be a productive every day player.

he's a fifth outfielder at best.

His only plus tool is speed.

average fielder.

below average arm

way below average power.

below average hitter.

if he plays for the Sox every day, we're going to be baddddddd.

Anyone want to do a little bit of digging and see what the Sox record is with Erstad leading off and what the record is so far since he's been gone ?

How about you since you obviously think it means so much?

Erstad does not improve this bullpen.

but he just needs to learn to get on base.

I don't know if he can learn that all of a sudden.

Seems to me you either have the talent to do it, or not.

But maybe like Crede he'll come on later.

How many titles did we win with Timo Perez and how many with Erstad; or what was our winning percentage with Anderson and what was it with Erstad?

My questions are silly and irrelevant.

But ERstad is no leadoff hitter under any analysis, except Ozzie Guillen's who wants swing at everything types atop (and throughout) the lineup.

For sure Podsednik is a far more accomplished leadoff hitter than is Erstad.

You don't develop a guy like him into a five-tool player, and not every productive outfielder has to be. Owens could make a pretty good living as a slap-hitting terror on the basepaths who plays an adequate left field.

He's Tom Goodwin at best.

if he is getting more than 300 at bats for your team, your team is in deep do-do.

The next time Joe Crede plays baseball he'll be 30 years old and he still has no clue how to take a walk.
