Thome's Quest for 500

Featured Replies

Let's go Thome! The personal player accomplishments this season have been a reason to keep watching and keep hoping for next year.

The decline in power is obviously disconcerting but I don't see falling from .288/.416/.598 to .263/.409/.508 as a massive drop off in production.

As far as the quest for 500, I don't see 7 home runs in five weeks as a huge stretch.

From Rotoworld:

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he is thinking about putting Jim Thome in the leadoff spot late in the season if the slugger needs more at-bats to reach 500 home runs.

Anything is better than keeping Jerry Owens there. Thome is currently seven homers away from 500.

For such a s***ty year as far as our team is concerned, we've seen quite a few milestones/records. Not only for us/our team, but for alot of other teams.

Hell after this trainwreck of a season maybe this will be something to be entertained by. I hope he gets it, as a White Sock.

Jim Thome is one of the easiest guys in the world to root for. I really hope he gets it this year.

Wouldn't it suck, yet be just like this Season From Hell for poor Jim to hit No. 499 then wrench his back and have to get it next April?

Man in a normal year he'd hit five homers easy in September. Can he do it in this hexed season though?

I am he gets it this year, it would be one of the few highlights of a lousy season.

Actually, as far as highlights are concerned, I'd say this year was probably pretty good. Buehrle's no-no, Jenks tying the most consecutive set down streak, and - even though he's a Blue Jay - Thomas hitting 500. The season itself has just sucked.

Tick tick tick.

Time is running out on Jimmy. Hope he gets hot and reaches the milestone this season at home.

He missed one by a foot today, would have been a HR in most ballparks.

497

Hopefully, he hits it next Saturday -- since I'll be there.

Thankfully, they were free tix.

I'd love to see him get it off of Santana... Today.

Will Rincon do?

Will ESPN break out of their regularly scheduled program to show Thome at bat when he's at 499?

I really hope he doesn't start pressing and continues to pound them over to get to 500 this year.

Thome doesn't strike me as the "pressing" type. If his 400th was any indication then #500 will come within the week. He hit 6 HR over a 7 game span during the 2004 season to go from 394 to 400, he actually hit #401 the very next day.

Homering in 3 consecutive games starting with #496 is a very good sign, Jim tends to hit HRs in bunches.

Eh, it was a pipedream, but I will take #498 :)

Cool, I've got tickets for Friday. Thursday is an off day. I think I might have a chance to see 500.
