I did happen to see the announcers say that if the Cubs won the World Series, it would be one of the three biggest moments in sports history.

When I go to the Twins and Mariners game @ Safeco Field on August 13, I'm going to see quite the pitchers' duel- Cy Santana and King Felix.

 

Just thought I'd throw that out that I bought the tickets back in early June, and it comes out they I will see 1 great pitcher, and 1 that could win multiple Cy Young's in 3-5 years.

Padres left-hander David Wells is a baseball collector of sorts and one of his prize possessions just grew a lot more valuable.

 

Wells has an old, grainy, yellowing baseball that he purchased for $7,000 with a Babe Ruth signature scrawled across the sweet spot. Since the purchase, he had Hank Aaron sign the ball during a Padres trip to Atlanta, and on Sunday, he added the name of Barry Bonds in the left fielder's unmistakable script.

 

That may give Wells the only ball that has the signatures of the top three all-time Major League home run hitters on it.

He needs to get ARod's sig on that ASAP before he leaves baseball.

I've always liked Wells. He's a HOFer in my book. Not first ballot, but fifteenth or so. Veteran's committee, definite, and he'll eventually get in.

There are plenty of guys like him in the Hall. Jamie Moyer is a guy I'd put in there after a couple of decades, too. Don't know if you've ever gone through the Hall and its members, but it isn't just the Sandy Koufaxs and the Babe Ruths of the baseball world in there. There are guys in there who are "very good" but not "ALL TIME GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" players, and they should be in there.

Correct. Only 7 pitchers have been inducted with an era higher than 3 and a half, and zero with an era over 4. Wells was a good pitcher but Hall of Famer he is not.

You don't know if I've ever gone through the Hall and its members? David Wells has a career ERA+ of 108. That's doesn't even qualify as "very good". He doesn't have a very good peak. Put him side-by-side with another great pitcher of his time, Greg Maddux. Maddux has nine seasons better than Wells' best season (1995 -- 200+ innings of a 141 ERA+). On David Wells' Most Similar Players' list, not even half are (or will be) Hall of Famers. Wells doesn't get in on either of Bill James' HoF Monitor or HoF Standards.

 

Need I keep going? Wells isn't a Hall of Famer. I appreciate the huge laugh you just gave me, though, by saying that Jamie Moyer is a Hall of Famer. Thanks for that.
