The Brewers are having an active day. According to a club official, the club has worked out a contract for free-agent righthander David Riske, who will get a chance to be Milwaukee's closer. In addition, the Brewers are close to obtaining third baseman Joe Crede from the Chicago White Sox. With the addition of Crede, the Brewers could move NL rookie of the year Ryan Braun to left field. Braun had severe defensive problems at third.

 

Prospects I'm guessing?

this coming directly from Kenny Williams, he is looking for players that won't K a ton and put up a good OBP. Hall provides neither of that. However, I highly doubt the Brew Crew would be stupid enough to do a Hall for Crede trade.

My guess is it will be a older prospect (prolly pitcher, reliever quality?) dont get your hopes up.

The Sox could always throw in a reliever, considering they've lost Cordero and Linebrink already.

I wouldn't mind getting Tony Gwynn Jr. in any deal. Him alone wouldn't be so hot, but if we could get him and a C prospect for Crede, I'd be glad. Gwynn can play all 3 OF positions with very good D and he has a cannon arm, and has good speed. He might not be anything special but I think he could be a very good situational/bench player.

I'm all for Tony Gwynn Jr. I think he is ready to break out if he gets regular at bats. the Brewers have too crowded an outfield.

Yes, he would. He's a .750 OPS SS/2B/3B/CF who put up a .900 OPS in 2006 who is also signed through 2010; Orlando Cabrera, who is better but only signed through this year, cost Jon Garland. Why in the hell would Bill Hall cost less than that?

 

Bill Hall is out of the question unless KW really wants to include one of his top pitching prospects in a desperation move (which is exactly what it would be); that would be stupid as hell.

I won't pursue this discussion much because I have been crucified on this board for my opinions towards Bill Hall and his one good season in 5.

 

I am curious though as to who in their right mind would trade a 5 star prospect like DLS for Bill Hall...and give Crede.

 

I will go on the record and say DLS shows up as a top 10 pitching prospect next season and probably top 30 in baseball. I can't imagine anyone inside that range, hell even the top 50 being traded for a nobody like Bill hall. That includes a 4 star lefty like Gio.

 

Hall somehow has lots of respect on this board. I still attribute it to a bunch of fantasy players who had him and refuse to let go of the fluke year that it was.

 

More importantly. According to KW he wants to add OBP, cut down k's, take pitches and a few other things that Bill Hall does 0 of. Why is this guy so beloved here? I just don't get or see what is so special about him. And I certainly don't see what he has that going for him that we would deal Gio or Dls + Crede. If that is what it costs, you hang up. Call them back and laugh...Then you hang up again.

He's young and good fairly good speed, so he could certainly be an option.

If the Brewers would consider trading us Gwynn, I would certainly be interested in hearing what they would want.

Has anyone looked at the Brewer's system? What kind of guys are in their top 20 or so?
