February 6, 200818 yr I imagine this has been a thread at some point in soxtalk's history, but I thought I'd start it up. I was just discussing with a friend which to buy as a gift for someone. My favorite of any sport might be Bang the Drum Slowly... also, in baseball, i know its cliche and corny but i like Field of Dreams. bull durham is great of course and the natural is a classic, though i think a tad overrated. hoosiers is the also the cliche underdog movie, but theres something about it that is just fantastic, and IMO the best bball movie. Caddyshack for golf movies, and football gotta go with Brian's Song What do you guys think?
February 6, 200818 yr Hands down... "The Rookie" I also enjoyed "Pride Of The Yankees" "Fever Pitch" and "Facing The Giants" I like true stories with great endings.
February 6, 200818 yr major league is easily the best baseball movie of all time. And it's so quotable too and so few people realize it. I always say "you're screwed Vaughn" and no one ever catches on
February 6, 200818 yr I thought the way they timed fever pitch was good I liked Invincible a lot Friday Night Lights Rocky IV Gladiator (Not Russel Crowe) the one about boxing The Program Blue Chips was entertaining
February 6, 200818 yr Hoosiers Rudy Bull Durham Major League Caddyshack Lots of other baseball movies...... that's all off the top of my head.
February 6, 200818 yr As much as I hate to put two Kevin Costner movies on my list.....he does make a fine sports movie..... --Bull Durham --Tin Cup and my non-KC movie would have to be Slap Shot with Paul Newman. I always have to watch that movie when i see it on TBS.
February 6, 200818 yr Bull Durham... It begins with Annie begins complaining about the Frank Robinson-for-Milt Pappas trade, and ends with her saying, "You could look it up." That about says it, meat.
February 6, 200818 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 12:29 AM) Field of Dreams, Remember the Titans, Major League... Yea that. I liked Any Given Sunday too. Remember the Titans is definitely my favorite though.
February 6, 200818 yr QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) The Natural No other sports movie comes close for me. itt, FTW!
February 6, 200818 yr Eight Men Out Slap Shot Rocky & Rocky II Major League & Major League II Caddyshack
February 6, 200818 yr QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 01:06 AM) As much as I hate to put two Kevin Costner movies on my list.....he does make a fine sports movie..... --Bull Durham --Tin Cup and my non-KC movie would have to be Slap Shot with Paul Newman. I always have to watch that movie when i see it on TBS. What he said. Perfect list.

Man, why, there's like no dialogue left after the editting. Major League is far and away #1 for me, and the second one is easily in the top 5. Slap Shot is also up there. Also, I can't believe I'm the first one to mention The Longest Yard, the first one was a classic. The Natural and Bull Durham probably round out the top 5 for me (okay, top 6, I just realized I can't count ). I tend to lean more towards the comedies than the serious sports dramas, though I do like most of the ones being mentioned. Edited February 6, 200818 yr by ZoomSlowik
February 6, 200818 yr QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) Man, why, there's like no dialogue left after the editing. Really! Watching Slap Shot on TBS is like watching GoodFellas on TBS. It's still very good, but it's just not the same!
February 6, 200818 yr The kid in me loves watching "The Sandlot". Me and my childhood buddies had a similar thing going on in Carol Stream: ghost runners, 7 people playing a full game, cranky neighbors, kids down the block challenging us to random games. the only thing we were missing was the negro league ballplayer who would have been better than Babe Ruth. unfortunately, that guy must have lived in Streamwood. February 6, 200818 yr Slapshot is tops on any list, followed by Caddyshack. After that, Eight Men Out, Rocky, Happy Gilmore, Miracle.
February 6, 200818 yr I could tell you which movie is NOT one of my top sports movies: Mr. Baseball I only had it on last night to have background noise while playing MVP 05 (i have 2 tv's in the room). I thought it would be cool to listen/watch that movie since i was already playing a baseball game, and i never actually saw the movie before. Well, wow, did it suck. But it was cool to see Big Frank in the movie
February 7, 200818 yr Slap Shot Remember the Titans Hoosiers The Natural Rounders High Roller - Highly recommend this to poker players, especially if you've heard of Stu Ungar
