I've heard back from 3 of my friends so far and they're all alright. They said they're just really freaked out. I can't imagine if something like that would happen here.

Prayers go out to everyone hurt or affected.

God Bless!!

Hopefully this asshole doesn't get the attention he craves like the last one.

Who are all our NIU posters?

Myself and 101 are the only ones I know by username, but I know there are more.

god this is all just ridiculous. what is wrong with the world? ... i'm at loyola and its so bizarre - so many people here have friends there

NIU is in my prayers. My brothers' alma mater. Some of my friends go there. I can't imagine.

Seriously, what are you accomplishing in your pathetic life by taking innocent people with you. If you feel you arent worth a damn, take your own life and get it over with, do not involve people that actually want to make a difference in this world.

According to MSNBC.com, the shooter killed himself.

Good...I guess.

We have ten people signed up here under NIU.edu emails.

I'm so f***ing depressed right now man... 4 people dead. This just hits too close to home, I've been in Cole Hall countless times.

I can't even fathom what those families/friends are going through.

And people in Blacksburg, Virginia are probably shuddering right now. Prayers go out to all friends/family of ALL NIU students.

Wow. I hope everyone on here from NIU is okay. Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone at the school; I can't imagine dealing with that.

death toll up to 6, including the shooter.

4 females, 2 males (one the shooter)

The teacher was actually a grad student

The shooter attended NIU as recently as Spring 2007, studying Sociology in graduate school. There's a good chance I might know him, bc I minored in sociology and graduated in December 2005.

That'd be really crazy.

so he wasn't a current student then.

According to Peters, no.

I can't believe it. I have a friend who was actually in the hall when it happened, thankfully she was sitting near the back... :(

Someone really need to teach Peters that casualties is not a good word when describing injured people.

that's the technical term.

Prayers go out to the families.

This is really sad. I can't believe it. Why do people think this is the best way for them to leave this world? People have to worry about being safe in school now?? WTF

Yeah I'm fine, but fathom, if you saw the scene (or even the outskirts of it like I did), you'd know why he said casualties. It was a f***ing war zone. What a sad day, this stuff doesn't even surprise me anymore, but it's just a punch in the balls when it's your school. You can't prevent this stuff of course, but as long as the NRA exists, it will continue to happen relatively often (sorry to go political there). The cell phones here are still shot, I can't find everybody.....I am afraid to see the victim lists when they come out.

Let me preface by saying this is a lot of friend of a friend, but...

I used to work with a lady who's daughter goes to NIU. She was in this class with 2 other friends. They usually all go together, but when some run late they don't sit together; the late ones just sit in back. Well, my friends daughter was late for this class along with one of her other friends. Unfortunately, their other friend was on time and sat in the front of class. She was one of the ones shot (who lated died). My friends daughter saw her friend get shot, and if she was on time, she could have been one of the people. It's so scary.

Hope everything is well. I have a brother that lives in DeKalb, and his cell phone was cutting out all day. My father has actually been taught on how to give press briefings for disaster situations much like today, and they're teaching now that casualties should only be used for fatalities due to the terms perception in a war time.

I hope everyone will make it through ok. Thoughts and prayers to the families.

I can't (don't want to) even imagine something like that happening here.

Yeah there are still 3 people I can't find, and I have significant concern about 2 of them. I can only hope I'm wrong.

Good to see you are alright man. Can you believe it happened to our school? I hate that NIU now is associated with what this psychopath did.

One of the victims worked for the star and they have his info up on their site www.northernstar.info
