2 yr 10 mil

Not gonna be a 2 year deal, I'd bet money on that. There probably will be an option for the 2nd year, but not much more than that.

1 yr - 365 bear claws.

1 year, $4 million, with a opening day roster bonus, other performance incentives, and a 2nd year option.

+annual supply of Honey Buns.

A minor league deal and nothing more.

Considering guys like Prior got $1 million guaranteed, I would probably think Bartolo is looking at that, with a lot of incentives, some easy to reach so if he pitches like a $2 million or $ 3 million or $15 million pitcher, he will get paid like one. Maybe a team option for 2009 or maybe Colon says no to that and the guarantee goes down a little.

Agreed. Something tells me that he's going to laugh at a minor-league deal. What Prior got seems about right.

Maybe the Sox could do with Colon what they did with Loaiza's deal. Would that work?

hes going to want at least 5 mil a year

And that's why he's still a free agent.

Best case scenario for Colon would be 1 year, $1 million or so + oodles of incentives. Anything more then something around there is ridiculous.

You know salaries have gotten out of hand when people like Colon are gonna make 5 million to either suck and/or spend the majority of the year on the DL.

1 year for 100,000 pizzas, 5,000 KFC buckets, and 2 turtle doves.

Turtledoves have too much fat in them.

:D

Minor league deal with an invite to ST.

No, Loaiza didn't have a Cy Young nor 146 wins under his belt. He also signed in a pretty weak market, while the market is up right now.

Colon is probably going to get $3-5 mill with an option for next year that's in the $11-15 mill range.

I think this is the closest so far. I would guess 2-3 million in base salary with incentives based on innings pitched or games started to push him into the 10-12 million dollar range. I am going to guess they also agree on a mutual option for somewhere around 13 million, or just a little less than what Buehrle extended for annually.

That option sounds just too high.

Right now it does, but if he has a good year its not.

I'm not very familiar with the collective barganing agreement, so this is kind of a blind question, but is there any regulations on what he can sign for? Does it have to be a certain percentage of his old contract?

I was thinking it was cheap for a pitcher who put up the numbers that Colon did during his prime. I think it would provide a carrot, er cheeseburger, for him to chase this year.

Nope.

There is something in the CB Agreement, but it does not apply to a player signing a "new" contract.

A team cannot structure a contract where it drastically reduces a player's salary in the last year of a deal (past a certain percentage).

But once that contract ends, performance may have reached a level where a player is worth far less than he was under his previous contract, as in the case of Colon.

I think coming off the physical problems with his arm and at this point of the year a minor league deal with incentives would be appropriate

Have fun not signing him then

Exactly,if he is satisfied with a minor league contract he will go wherever the hell he wants. Most of the teams in the league would give him a minor league deal.

I'm going to guess $1 million base, with incentives the deal could reach $6-7 million, with a club option of $12 million for 09'.
