All my bias put aside, it's a shame that Taylor Mays won't be on the board when the Bears pick, unless they lose these last 2 games.

The guy is a 6'3, 230 pound physical phenom. He runs a 4.35 40 and for his size, that's incredible. Teams have literally stopped throwing his way, and I have a feeling when he steps on the field January 1 and has a huge game against another boring Big-10 team, that will cement his spot as the 1st or 2nd DB taken in the draft.

So, yes- I think we should part ways with Brown. Sure, our S's aren't that good as a whole but we don't have a true FS. Kevin Payne goes for the huge f***ing hit every chance he has instead of just tackling the f***ing guy.

I think the Bears will address the FS need in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round of April's draft.

Ehh 30 and drafted 8 years ago is a grizzled vet by NFL standards. I do agree that a lot of the other Bear defenders aren't grizzled vets yet, but they did get paid and appear to have lost interest (here's look at you Harris and Vasher among others). Urlacher is the worst case in that he got paid/lost interest AND is a grizzled vet.

Getting to your point Brian, I am a HUGE fan of Taylor Mays, as well as Eric Berry from Tennessee. Two of the best defensive back prospects I can remember seeing recently.

Malcom Jenkins would be a nice pick for them as well. Basically has locked down half the field this season.

I still think Brown is worth a few more years in a Bears uni.

It's not like Mike Brown is a liability and just plain sucks out there. To be honest I kind of shudder thinking about us trying to stop a run game without him.

True, but he's a huge liability in the passing game and is a big contributor to the struggles the Bears have had defending that this year.

That's more a problem with the secondary as a whole and IMO it's pretty unfair to single out Brown, with Vasher basically being worthless this year, and Payne being ok, but not a world-beater in coverage. Peanut is Peanut, solid player, but not someone who can hold it down on his own. It's also made worse by the fact that the pass rush has been pathetic a lot, which is the Achilles heel of this defense.

Brown's not exactly been Adam Archuleta or Roy Williams out there being a liability in coverage, but it was never his strength. His strengths are, in order, run support, pure textbook tackling (and f***ing monster hits), leadership and knowledge of X's and O's like a MLB, and knowing exactly where to be (been caught out of position a couple of times this year though).

IMO our corners are absolute garbage and the pass rush has been terrible. Im not sure our safeties are a huge issue.

I think from watching Dallas over the past 4 weeks, their secondary is still not up to scratch, but because the pass rush has been so good, they haven't been exploited.

I'd love for Dallas to go after a CF FS in the draft though (move Hamlin to SS and cut Roy Williams), because then I think our defense would pretty much be complete.

Although an upgrade at NT (with Ratliff moving to DE) or DE in the 3-4 will help also.

The corners and pass rush have been poor, but the safties haven't been great either. Brown has been good against the run, but his pass coverage is not good, and Kevin Payne misses A TON of tackles because he likes to go for the big hit. Brown has without question been the best secondary player this season on the Bears, but that's a case of tallest midget.

Frankly, I don't think this team gets better by dumping Mike Brown for the sake of doing it. It's one thing when we're talking about Adam Archuleta and it's addition by subtraction, it's another with Brown since he's still a well above-average player IMO especially when other players are fulfilling their roles correctly which right now they are not. His cost isn't going to be that high, esp. if he has a deal structured the way it is this year.

I would prefer that as well. I think if we had drafted LaRon Landry, Roy Williams would no longer be on this team.

As for the Bears, their secondary is terrible, especially for a Cover-2 IMHO. The reason why they did so good was because of Ron Rivera, and the D-Line/Linebackers covering up a lot of the wholes the secondary had. The problem is, they aren't particularly fast, and they play for the INT which is a bad combination. In the secondary, the Bears need a complete revamp. I still think Vasher is the only one worth keeping, but if you want, it's either him or Tillman that stays, and neither of them are #1 CB's on a good team.

It wasn't Ron Rivera, the guy gets way too much credit. It was the D-line play, which was lights out most of the time. In games where the D-line wasn't generating pressure, Rivera's game plans were neutered, and he'd never adjust. His blitz schemes weren't as unimaginative as Babich's, but they were close, they were predictable and simple. When the D-line isn't getting it done in a Cover 2, the entire scheme goes to s***.

Vasher was completely worthless this year, I don't know why you'd hitch yourself to that wagon. I would not be surprised if he got cut and replaced next year to save salary. He was getting abused week in and week out, I don't know what happened to him.

That's who, in my mind, might be the only DB taken ahead of Mays.

Deion Sanders is brutal in the booth.

More brutal:

Deion, Aikman, Emmitt or Irvin?

Devin Hester should be a broadcaster when he retires.

Dallas's D-Line looking good. Offense...not so much.

Too bad we didnt take Flacco, he looks amazing.

...and given up the chance to draft Chris Williams?!

He's been amaz... oh wait.

The pick of an OL at that position was the correct one. They just (maybe, the jury is still out until next year) may have picked the wrong one.

I thought Bomber was being sarcastic. I've seen Flacco miss some wide open WR's and hold the ball too long.

I was being sarcastic. I think Flacco is severely overrated. Im on record wanting Otah.

I really hope that settling for FGs doesn't come back to haunt Baltimore.

If TO ever complains about Whitten getting thrown to too much, he should get laid out. Best TE today.

Speechless.
