The original "Vulture" was a pitcher named Phil Regan. He pitched in relief in the 70's (and 60's I think). Back when the relief pitchers pitched more than one inning and rarely got the win. He had years when he seemed to get these types of wins and was given the nickname due to swooping in and getting the opportunistic win. Hawk did call Barry Jones this as well.
July 10, 200817 yr Cliff Politte was also called the Vulture during 05, IIRC. Probably just about every reliever has had this nickname if they have a similar run.
July 10, 200817 yr I think Phil Reagan was the original Vulture. Its really not a unique name. Its what every reliever who picks up relatively cheap wins is called.
