Gavin's been throwing low fastballs to Cust all night that he's fouled off. He has to be careful this AB with him, as Cust has been just barely behind on that pitch.

Exactly what I was talking about.

Hawk was about to say that Floyd has the best curveball in the American League when he gave up that homerun (off a fastball).

We have all seen this happen so many times, we get of to a nice start and completely fall asleep as game goes on.

Offense better wake up and get Gavin out of there.

Hey AJP...please review the scouting report that says Cust is a great fastball hitter, but can't touch offspeed pitches!

well it's not boring anymore.

Please get Floyd out of this game

Sounds like Pedro Ceranno.

Great call.

Cust is another of those s*** players that kills the Sox.

This game is on the offense inabilty to do anything that has allowed the A's to stay in this game.

Well, if you can get 6 innings, 1 run earned, 110 pitches out of Gavin in Oakland, and have him leave with the lead, I'd say you should be pretty happy.

last time we played oakland ESPN ran a stat showing Cust's numbers on the fastball vs. breaking balls....the jist of it was, Cust doesnt chase pitches out of the zone, fastballs or curveballs...but in the strike zone, he rakes fastballs, and hits breaking balls at like a historically bad rate

fathom beat me to saying this exact same thing

I guess those high fly balls that went foul down the left field line didn't teach AJP anything. Oh well, let's see if our bullpen can step up.

Do the Sox have advanced scouts?

Matt ain't playin around.

Yes, and they tell Hawk that Carlos Gomez is the greatest player ever!

Nice job Thorton.

Think the Sox will face more then 7 pitches this inning.

OPS of .912 last year in 124 games, .796 in 109 games this year. I'd hardly call him a "s***" player.

Cust did the same crap last time we played them. Get a friggin clue guys.....

Wake your asses up offense....

The Sox should hire us and send about 4 or 5 to scout out teams, we'd be happy because that job would be cool, they'd be happy because they might actually get more advanced scouting.

These guys know they don't have to swing at every pitch, no matter where the location is, right?

A blog I read pretty often, http://baseballanalysts.com, posted some stats that rank him as the second-worst player in the AL.

Looks like the Uribe nice streak has come to an end offensively and defensively.

Decent job Gavin. Thats why you're in my avatar.

Bottom of the order blows tonight.

There's been like 3 hard hit balls by the Sox tonight. We're fortunate to even be in this game.

he can't do both at a high level, it'd be nice to have one done at a high level.

wow. Ya know...I almost wish this team wouldn't score any runs in the first inning anymore.

goddamn......
