Carlos Quentin and his 1.130 OPS headlines this months group of candidates, the American League MVP hopeful has been red hot since the break and set some new season highs with his incredible August, which was arguably his best month to date as a Big Leaguer. Jim Thome lead the team with 9 HR while Nick Swisher tallied 7 (including a walkoff), Alexei Ramirez actually had his worst month since May in all 4 average categories but pounded 6 HR (a career high) and drove in 22 (the team high for August) and Paul Konerko finally sprung to life with a 1.074 OPS which is only 274 points higher than his previous monthly high for 2008 (June).

The pitching was solid in August. Javier Vazquez bounced back posting a 3.72 ERA and 1.23 WHIP to go along with 37 Ks, John Danks had his second worst month of the year which just goes to show how amazing he has been this season, Gavin Floyd's numbers may not popout at you but he's been the stopper, he's coming up huge in a couple of starts when the team truly needed him the most last month, DJ Carrasco continues his excellent work in a setup role (that Oakland game not withstanding) picking up 6 holds and stranding 11 inherited baserunners and Bobby Jenks returned from injury to have possibly his best month of the year going 6/6 in save opportunities while allowing only 1 run.

Chose DJ....stabilized a bullpen that was dangerously close to falling apart after Linebrink went down...

Certainly wouldnt argue about CQ winning again but Alexei has been a rather stunning gentleman this month.

I wanted to vote for Alexei....but just couldn't take him when Q has an OBP 130 points higher...

Yeah but Alexei has been a pain in the ass on the basepaths for the opposition and of course his defense including his awesome play he made at third base won me over. But I will admit that is a ton of points higher of an OBP(iam torn iamshack).

Alexei's defense is ok, it's spectacular at times but he also makes a good amount of mistakes out there and his awesome play at 3B was just a chopper to his left, he showed nice range and all but come on. He still can't steal bases but his speed has been nice on the basepaths. He walked 1 time in August had a batting average that was 14 points lower than Quentin's and an OPS nearly 300 points lower. Alexei is awesome in clutch situations but that's sort of Quentin's specialty as well. Quentin is easily the best player for the month of August, it's not even close in my mind.

You are right,I should have voted for Quentin.

I guess Alexei swayed me with his flashy ways.

Quentin is heads and heels above everyone this month. It's not even close.

As for the pitcher, I'd go with DJ as he's been a huge help with Linebrink being out. Jenks had a great month, but it was a bit more unexpected from Carrasco so I'd have to give the edge to him.

Voted for Quentin as well.

As for Carrasco, I had to vote for him because he stabilized the bullpen, and I actually think he has a harder job in that he usually comes in with guys on base. Jenks didnt have one inherited runner, I think that makes it easier to pitch.

The only run Bobby allowed this month occurred yesterday, right? I vote Bobby.

I picked Paulie over CQ because PK made his stats with less ABs.

I have to say for the record I still think that was an awesome play for a guy who hasnt played third all year. The spin and the throw certainly impressed the bench.

Floyd and Paulie, why not

The case for gavin is pretty simple...he's been the stopper. Every time we've needed a pitcher to come up big for the last month he's been the one who's done it. He hasn't put up the greatest numbers, but he's given us innings on days we really needed them and wins on days we really needed them.

Anyway, Q > U.

Paul EE plus floyd was so good when we needed it the most

Why not Uribe?

Quentin had a great month, but at this point, that's kinda expected. So, I went with PK, because with him hitting the ball, our team is a lot better.

Seems like people are picking Floyd for his win-loss record. Rotoworld recently pointed out Gavin gets an average of 7.8 runs in his wins and the game against Boston was the first win he's had with less than 5 runs of support. Think Danks would appreciate that?

Javy and Carlos for me.
