November 6, 200817 yr How come there isn't much talk on the board about acquiring Cano? Ramirez at SS and Cano at 2B would be a strong middle infield, and would give us a young top of the lineup player. Plus, Cano has had a down year and is no longer considered untouchable. Am I dreaming?
November 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) I'd rather have Brandon Phillips Me too, but I would think he's untouchable. Cano can be had, Phillips, not so much.
November 6, 200817 yr Cano a short while ago was destroying people w/ the bat I think the sentiment here is we have such a desire for speed, but if we can add that at other positions then I'm for this. I do think the price would be too high though. Maybe NYY gives him away if they get Hudson. 'give away' being relative. Edited November 6, 200817 yr by Princess Dye

November 6, 200817 yr Cano had a down season and is poor defensively but he typically rakes. I wouldn't be opposed at all to acquiring him. The question is at what cost.
November 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) No it isn't. I could see them moving him, but only if they were confident that they were upgrading, i.e. like they felt like they had a deal in place for Orlando Hudson. They struggled for too many years to find a regular 2b next to their other IF's.
November 6, 200817 yr The only way I see the Yankees moving Cano is if they get some team to overpay for him, but I just don't see that happening.
November 6, 200817 yr Author The question is what could we offer? Also, what is Cano's contract situation?

The question is at what cost. I would hesitate because of the poor "D". I would much rather see the consistently super defense then rely of just offsne. How fast is Cano anyway? Stolen bases, etc?

November 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) The question is what could we offer? Also, what is Cano's contract situation? '09: $6M '10: $9M '11: $10M '12: $14M team option ($2M buyout) '13: $15M team option ($2M buyout) So for a player with a very limited skill set he's pretty expensive. If he's not stroking doubles into the gaps he's not worth much since he can't run, draw walks or hit for big time power and showed last year that he's prone to lapses in concentration and can get lazy in the field.
November 6, 200817 yr I really don't think Cano is "poor" defensively. He's average at worst, imo. He's a better version of Jose Valentin in that he struggles at times with the routine plays but because he has great range, he makes plays a lot of guys can't. I really don't know why the Yanks would want to replace him with Hudson.

Wow, that gets really steep, even in '11, let alone the options years.
November 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) Wow, that gets really steep, even in '11, let alone the options years. Only for any team other than the Yankees.

And how the Sox would get him is also beyond me. The Royals won't trade him within the division, not when they could very well be close to becoming a competitive team.
November 6, 200817 yr I don't know why so many people have a woody for Chone. I guess we're going to have to finally acquire him and he not hit a lick for people to get off his bandwagon. I sure hope Lexi is a reliable shortstop. It's been a while since we've had a defensive liability at ss. He seems a little wild out there in the field sometimes and that's only at 2B. Is Renteria a free agent? maybe he's been humbled by his s***tiness in Detroit.
November 6, 200817 yr QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Is Renteria a free agent? maybe he's been humbled by his s***tiness in Detroit. How big a kick in the nuts would it be to OC if the Sox signed Renteria and he had a monster year...only to be lauded by Sox fans? Would actually make me chuckle. I'm kind of on the fence with moving Lexi to SS. Seems to me he makes up for his mental lapses at 2B pretty well with his athletic ability. Not sure he could overcome that at SS. I'd actually prefer to leave him at 2nd...but it all depends on the options available.
