Boras Client. End of discussion.

Varitek is a good leader but the Sox have AJ and I don't see Varitek taking a backup job (plus there is the whole issue with them both being lefties). I do think a team could get lucky on Varitek with him rebounding to an extent but he's definitely on the downside of his career.

Besides the fact that he wants to be a starter, he bats left-handed and would require at least 5-7 mil. per year. ( I read the Red Sox were going to offer or already did offer him 14 mil/2 years.) Of course nobody wants to pay that much for a backup catcher.

Don't forget the part where he's done as a hitter, and people are stuck talking about his intangibles and game management. At this point, i'd reather have AJ and Cole.

Good way to keep yourself out of harms way when you start a topic and then let the posters figure out what to "discuss"

Anyway Varitek? We need someone willing to play backup to AJ. Jason Varitek wants to be a starter and derves to be a starter

I'd pass on him. We have AJ, plus Varitek is coming off a terrible offensive year. Do I think he'll be as bad as he was last year? No. But I think he's past his prime.

Varitek is terrible and his asking price is ridiculous. No thanks.

How does he deserve to be a starter? He was awful last year.

Hell no, he is f***ing terrible.

Varitek is a switch hitter, not just lefty.

I remember seeing Sean Casey pinch hit for him in the playoffs and thinking... 'Wow. So it's come to this. How sad.'

As bench coach, yes.

But he was an all-star!!!! .220 BA is just what we need.

Blanco > Varitek

I almost posted this thread early this morning. Then I saw that Boras was his agent and seeking 4 years. Obviously I didn't post it.

A .220 BA would fit right in on our team.

Yeah, what a joke that was

Varitek is a switch hitter who hit .284/.378/.484/.863 in 111 PA against lefties last season and .284/.362/.468/.830 for his career. If his name wasn't Jason Varitek and not represented by Boras then it would make perfect sense, he'd be the ideal backup catcher to AJ.

Hell no.............he is done and can't get on base to boot!

God no....

I always have believed in loyalty. Plus it might have been just a down year for Varitek

Jason Varitek had a higher OBP than AJ Pierzynski last season.

I didn't realize Varitek was a switch hitter. It would make perfect sense, C an he play back up at 1B?
