Sox make offer to free agent pitcher Odalis Perez

Featured Replies

Per ESPN.

I hope this isnt the deal I have been hearing about.

A couple scenarios could develop should he accept

Should Vazquez get traded, I really dont see Richard or Poreda doing anything but relieving, and I would expect a move either for another righty, or Marquez gets the job handed to him.

It should be interesting to see how this develops

Yuck.

one word... ewww.

Please no. 3 lefties is fine as long as none of them suck, but in this case, I think one of them ends up sucking.

why go after a #5 starter when there are pleanty of 2, 3 or 4's to be had. I dont like this move one bit. Hopefully the Nats nab him before we do.

yep, this is gross.

Well apparently he's working on a deal to resign with the Nationals.

It says he's received offers from the Yankees and White Sox but is working on a multi-year deal with the Nationals. Assuming the Sox offered him a 1 year deal (why would they go any longer?) you have to figure their chances of landing the overweight soft tosser aren't too good.

Please lord let Jim Bowden overpay, please, please, please.

If it's a 1-2 year deal, I really don't have a problem with it. Perez as a 5 is passable.

I'd much rather have an innings eater in the 5th spot, not a 32 year old who's probably going to throw 120-160 innings with a large possibility of completely bombing. Case in point: he lasted 7+ innings 3 times out of 30 starts last season and lasted less than 6 innings in half of his outings (15/30) including 7 outings of 4 IP or less. What would that 4.34 ERA look like if he wasn't pulled after 5 in nearly half his outings? If he doesn't have a great defense behind him he's going to give up a f***-ton of hits, he has a high LD%, high contact% and an 88 MPH fastball

This... is not a good sign.

Hopefully it's just a smoke screen

I was dreading reading something like this. KW's been rumored to be after Odalis in the past.

i wouldnt be really worry about this. I expect the nats resign him.

I would much rather have Jason Marquis then this guy. It sure as hell better be a smokescreen. ..

I hope the chances of this signing are......remote.

That is the best commercial ever. That is all.

Kenny's always liked him.

GO NATS GO !

Home: 2.65 ERA, 1.13 WHIP

Away: 6.53 ERA, 1.92 WHIP

gross

kw has wanted perez forever it seems like.

That was like 4 or 5 years ago. I don't buy this at all. To sign Perez is to say you have no faith whatsoever in guys like Richard and Poreda. I think they'd give Broadway a shot before actually bringing this bum in.
