Sox and Brewers talking Jenks....

Jeremy Jeffress, Brewers: It was a down year for righties in the AFL and while relievers like Bud Norris and Andrew Carignan excelled, we're going with the guy who wowed folks stuff-wise. Trouble is, he only pitched three times before being shut down, and one of them came when he was clearly not at his best. That being said, he showed the plus pure stuff that made him a first-round pick in 2006. He hit triple digits with his fastball and showed a good breaking ball as well. His changeup still needs work, but it looked like he was headed in the right direction.

I don't like the notion of not acquiring certain talent because of minor league depth, but with Fields supposedly healthy, and the large commitment made to Dayan, using Jenks to acquire a young 3rd baseman might be a waste of resources.

Well, Kenny could possibly turn those prospects into something extremely valuable. Just sayin

There is absolutely no difference between Tony Gwynn Jr. and the average light hitting speedster with questionable fielding ability that you can sign off the street, aside from his pedigree I suppose.

Tony Gwynn Jr. is actually a pretty solid defender though.

Hart's K/BB ratio scares me a bit.

I'd be after these players;

Manny Parra - 10-8, 4.39 ERA, 147/75 K/BB ratio.

Yovani Gallardo - 1.87 ERA in 4 starts.

Cole Gillespie - 21 y.o OF prospect. .281/.386/.472 in AA.

Caleb Gindl - 19 y.o OF spect. .302/.388/.474 in A ball.

Jeremy Jeffress - 4.08 ERA in A ball.

I don't think Gamel should be qualified as a thirdbaseman though. He's likely gonna have to move to either 1B, LF, or DH in the AL.

Frankly, if I'm trading Bobby, with the damage we've already done to our rotation in terms of innings-eating...I want Gallardo, or Parra + another guy. Our hole now is innings from our starters. We need a major league ready starting pitcher.

I'd be interested to see who Melvin rates higher actually, Gallardo coming off major knee surgery or Parra who had a pretty decent 1st season in the majors.

I agree with your thinking though.

You don't trade Jenks for defense.

Lol, KW should be fired on the spot if he traded Jenks for Gwynn. Only a retarded monkey would make such a trade.

I was just saying that Gwynn is a solid defensive player.

I wouldnt do this deal unless Im getting at least Gallardo back...if not Gallardo + Hart, which would probably require some throw in on our part...Broadway, Richard, etc? Then trading Dye is not a big deal which you would use to get back some of the young pitcher(s) u traded away with Jenks., Dye for Edwin Jackson being ideal. At the point our rotation would be primed with young quality rather proven arms poised to compete for several years to come.

It all depends if he has a deal set in place to move Dye somewhere for starting pitching.

If so, then he can go after CF/leadoff position. Which I guess would be Hart and/or Richie Weeks as possibilities...Gallardo and Parra would be great, but I don't think a relief pitcher gets you a starter back in any book, especially young/affordable starters in a mid-market, having lost Sabathia and Sheets, they can't deal any pitching to us IMO.

Billy Hall would be another possibility, but how many "versatile" players (like Chone Figgins) who don't have one best position and can't play above-average defense do we really need? Then you also have to consider the transition to the "tougher" AL, etc. Hall also comes with a higher price tag, so I'm sure they would be interested in dumping him or possibly Hardy.

Although with Hardy, it HARD(L)Y makes any sense if we don't know about Cabrera's fate (bringing back Uribe and signing O-Cab worked last year, but...) and we need to be able to tell our players what we expect out of them (in terms of where they will play, Beckham knows he's going to the minors to play SS until they tell him differently).
