bmags
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Isn't this the same thing he said 2 days ago? 2 days ago he admitted Blago's bro contacted him about fundraising, which in itself was a contradiction to his testimony. This is admitting that after that phone call he tried to raise funding for him.

mreye
QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Oh, I actually thought he already did that. No, originally he (Burris) said he told Robert that he can't fundraise because it would be inappropriate. Now, he's saying he tried but was unable to get anyone to give and finally told Robert it would be inappropriate only after finding out no one was interested in giving. I understand your confusion; his story changes daily. I'm just at a loss why any of those Senators in DC would approve someone appointed by a Governor under such a cloud. Is a single vote that important to throw all integrity out the window? While in the end this may be good for my side, it's yet another disgrace for all politicians in general. Pathetic. If you can't trust a former Attorney General (who was believed to be squeaky clean, by the way) to tell the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth our whole judicial system comes to a screeching halt. lostfan
I don't know what to think, really. When he was appointed he was clean or at least had a reputation as someone who was clean, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now he's just being a dumbass. bmags
I blame Blago, Burris and the Illinois legislature for shuffling their feet on Blago for this, but in reality, the US Senate had no legal basis to keep him out. Even when they 'barred' him from office, Burris could've walked in, the officer couldn't have arrested him. As long as Blago was gov he could appoint someone, we were stupid enough to think that a crazy man wouldn't appoint someone, and then surprised when someone was crazy enough to accept. Texsox
I am very disappointed. While I understand anyone's desire for an opportunity to be a Senator, hell, there ain't many, this is so wrong. I had a fairly high opinion of Burris, until this week.

Because constitutionally they don't have much choice. If the appointment is legal, and ultimately it was a legal appointment, the Senate is bound to seat the named replacement.
