"Until I went on the disabled list, I was optimistic that I would miss this last road trip and then be back in the lineup," said Anderson, speaking in front of his locker prior to Wednesday's game (which eventually was postponed due to rain), after being placed on the disabled list before Friday's series opener in Texas. "I didn't know the process of getting back from something like this." Anderson did not accompany the team for its three-game weekend trip to Texas or its two-game stint in Kansas City on Monday and Tuesday. He feels much improved from just one week ago, and that progress can be chalked up to following the plan of inactivity initially laid out by White Sox athletic trainer Herm Schneider. "As far as physical activity, you have to be as lazy as possible and let it scar down and heal itself," Anderson said. "Those five days helped, those five days of doing absolutely nothing, as I was told by Herm. "Today, I made a lot of progress. I got on the bike and did some abdominal work. It feels great, but just really, really tight." White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has expressed a desire for Anderson to get some Minor League at-bats to test the injury before his return. But the team will welcome back Anderson, who was hitting .288 with four RBIs as Dewayne Wise's replacement at the time of the injury, after being left a little shorthanded Monday with Jermaine Dye also being sidelined for two games after being hit by a pitch. The period of doing nothing was not a total loss for Anderson. "Literally, I watched 78 movies when I was off," said Anderson with a laugh. "I expect him to go get some at-bats in the Minors Leagues to get it going," Guillen said. "Then we'll make a decision [on] what we're going to do."
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (DABearSoX @ May 7, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) what is awesome is that this is such a big deal...you have made it BA No, it's a big deal because I think the Sox would rather keep Podsednik as the everyday starting CF. With Wise coming back in a month or so, there's going to be a tough decision to be made.

With Wise coming back in a month or so, there's going to be a tough decision to be made. Anderson is back well before that though. I think BA comes back and he platoons with Pods, and as long as Pods doesn't do terribly, Wise goes to AAA and stays there.

May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) I'm fascinated by your use of the word "Tough". It shouldn't be tough, but you know it will be for Ozzie.
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Anderson is back well before that though. I think BA comes back and he platoons with Pods, and as long as Pods doesn't do terribly, Wise goes to AAA and stays there. Which is pretty annoying - BA was doing just fine last year until Ozzie started to platoon him vs. lefties and his average took a dive. I remember starting a thread about it. Platooning Anderson doesn't help anything, it actually hurts. Either play him, or don't.
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) It shouldn't be tough, but you know it will be for Ozzie. What's crystal clear to us isn't always for Ozzie (e.g. Erstad being the starting CF)
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) I wonder if he used "literally" correctly. Maybe he included the adult films he watched.
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) I'm fascinated by your use of the word "Tough". Fascinated is not the word I would use, but it did left me puzzled
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (iamshack @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Is the minor league stint really needed at this point? Yes, coming back from oblique pain is very difficult. Players might try and change their approach to take off some of the torque from their swing. The real question is what happens if Anderson goes on his rehab assignment and struggles?
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (goblue5699 @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Maybe he included the adult films he watched. I thought he had to stay inactive.. nobody watches adult films "inactive."
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (iamshack @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Is the minor league stint really needed at this point? Yes, especially if he hasn't swung a bat in a week.
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 7, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Dewayne Wise took flyballs today. This is going to be interesting. Hopefully he took them to the skull. Edited May 7, 200916 yr by CanOfCorn
May 7, 200916 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 7, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Dewayne Wise took flyballs today. This is going to be interesting. Was he playing too deep and they dropped in front of him? In all honesty, I hope he comes back. We need all the offense we can get from the left side now that Betemit's been deported.
May 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Anyone know the day that Brian's DL trip is supposed to be up? It was retroactive to April 30th. May 14th I think that means.
May 8, 200916 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 7, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Dewayne Wise took flyballs today. This is going to be interesting. With Pods hovering around the .300 mark, we all know he will play the most when BA comes back. Lame.
