May 26, 200916 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Wow, that was one early game. 10:45 AM ET start time.
May 26, 200916 yr The Barons are back in town, but of course, there is a threat of rain all week. No rain for 10 days they are gone, rain possible all 5 days they are here.
May 26, 200916 yr Another great day for Nathan Jones. Kid is rising up the charts very fast. All I care about him is runs and walks, so if he isn't striking batters out (like today), it really doesn't concern me. I wonder if they are preaching the Bobby Jenks philosophy, sacrifice some velocity for more strikes and movement. Whatever it is, it's working. Edited May 26, 200916 yr by maggsmaggs
May 26, 200916 yr My boy Charlie finally lost a game - oh well, wasn't going to go all season undefeated. Other action... Columbus beating Charlotte 4-3 in the 3rd. Torres gave up 2 ER so far (and two unearned on a Castillo error at 3B, his 11th), Wise 1-2 with a double so far in his rehab game. Lucy and Ginter with doubles as well. MIssissippi @ B-Ham in warm-ups, Harrell goes for the Barons. Kanny was rained out.
May 26, 200916 yr Rare to see Torres struggle this year. I really like him. The K rate in AAA is hard not to like.
May 27, 200916 yr QUOTE (danman31 @ May 26, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Rare to see Torres struggle this year. I really like him. The K rate in AAA is hard not to like. I'm glad its not just me. I see a lot to like in him. Also, random off topic... What is up with David Cook? Put aside for a moment the whole age and not-a-prospect thing, and let's just look at his AA numbers in 2008 and 2009: 2008: .313/.467/.577/1.044 (which is just sick, especially in that ballpark) 2009: .218/.353/.435/.788 How does that happen? Was his injury late last year something chronic? Does he have a flaw in his approach that the league figured out (which may also explain the Sox sending him back down to AA)? Something else? His IsoBB is still nearly the same: .135 this year, .154 last year, both very good numbers. but his AVG and slugging are way, way down. And he's better protected in this lineup. Theories?
May 27, 200916 yr Author Barons put up a 6-spot in the 1st on 8 hits: Danks single to right, caught stealing Beckham single to center Flowers struck out looking Allen RBI double to RF that would have been a homer in most parks. Viciedo RBI double to RF Gartrell RBI single to center Cook infield single Shelby 3-run HR to LF Retherford single to center Danks walked Beckham flies out to CF

Depression.... looking at all the talent around him that is going to be playing for the WhiteSox... while he may miss his chance. And as a result, he's pressing to keep up with them and making it worse. No proof... just a theory.
May 27, 200916 yr Author RBI single for Flowers. Everyone has a hit. 7-1, 4th inning Danks 2-2, walk Beckham 1-3 Edited May 27, 200916 yr by flavum

This team is sick (not that I really need to say that).
May 27, 200916 yr Author Lucas Harrell only went 5 innings. 93 pitches. 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 4 k's
May 27, 200916 yr Jordan Danks is sure making this minor league stuff look pretty easy... .322/.409/.529 at Winston-Salem in 118 at-bats .367/.449/.467 at Birmingham so far

Edit: nevermind, palehose beat me to it. On a side note, Jordan Danks is batting .391 now. Yeah, it's only 64 AB's but come on. He's doing even better than High A so far. This is getting so awesome following this Barons team. Edited May 27, 200916 yr by dasox24
