Trade Idea

GLOAD is GOD

Obviously, with the team thankfully playing better, this idea doesn't hold as much water. Now, Kenny looks to be shaking things up in the pitching department, before making any serious changes to the current offensive and defensive alignments.

However, I think a guy Kenny absolutely needs to make a phone call about is Ryan Zimmerman. He's been the face of a miserable franchise for the past 4 years, and the only factor I could see holding up a deal is fear of alienating the Nationals fan base even further. Before everyone goes nuts, I know that any GM would tell you, "What team wouldn't want Zimmerman?" and I could even see the term 'untouchable' being thrown around. Although he is still very young, he is a lifetime .284 hitter and seems bound for "really nice career" status as oppose to the lofty Hall of Fame promises and acolaydes he was receiving several years ago.

With that said, I think the White Sox would be a phenomenal fit/match. The odds are nothing comes together in the next week and 1/2, but I think this idea could still be relevant in the offseason. The nationals need to show some signs of life, and we would give them the opportunity to patch several holes in replace of the "Face of the Franchise" of a .400 win % team.

Do you guys think a package of Getz, Poreda, and Flowers would at least get the tires kicking?

This way an infield of:

3B - Zimmerman

SS - Ramirez

2B - Beckham

1B - Pauly

I really think a potential match up of the Sox and Nationals could be a good one.

That's actually a really solid idea, Zimmerman plays excellent D at 3rd and provides a solid bat that would do well in the Cell.

I don't want to deal Flowers though, I'd offer a package built around Poreda, Getz and Clayton Richard. Three guys I just don't want to see traded are Tyler Flowers, Jordan Danks and Dan Hudson.

But if you look at where they would need help.....definitely up the middle. The verdict is still out on Getz and they need middle infielders. The catchers on their roster are dismal, not sure about depth in their system, but Flowers would have to be an attractive piece at catcher for them. Then with Poreda, what team doesn't need upside arms?

I think the untouchable quality of Zimmerman is only because of the team he plays on, he hasn't been out of this world. He's not really at David Wright's level or anything like that. He's just a really nice player at this point.

I think we have the young talent, to objectively make them a better team at several spots. You gotta give something to get something.

Nationals aren't trading Zimmerman. They just signed him to a cheap extension, and he's the only competent ball player they have on the team.

Really? 40 HRs for 5 straight years (and on his way to the 6th), over 100 walks for 5 straight years, and a career OPS+ of 131 does nothing for you? Why because he strikesout a lot?

Adam Dunn

I know his defense isn't good, but he's a competent ballplayer, as is Lannan and Nick Johnson

I'm not sure where the Sox would get Dunn into the lineup if Q is healthy.

I'd love to get Zimmerman. The Nats can't give him up without a fan revolt even though the Sox could offer a package that would make both teams better. Nice trade idea though.

If the Sox let Dye or Thome go I would like the Sox to see if they can get Dunn in the offseason

Where are you seeing that BearSox said that Zimmerman does nothing for him? He just said that Zimmerman was the only competent player on the team and that he is untouchable.

I think there was another post that said something like that, but it must have been deleted. Dont think it was Bearsox though

edit: I just saw your reply

exactly, maybe should have put Dunn's name in my original post, I was just trying to point out that there's another no brainer good player, offensively at least, on the team, hence not giving the name originally. In fact there were 3 other competent players I thought of automatically on that team including Dunn

Okay, I get your response. I was just trying to point out how terrible the Nats are, and while the likes of Dunn and Johnson are decent-good, on any other team, there'd be a whole lot more good baseball players.

Also, Lannan does nothing for me. He has stuff comparable to Jamie Moyer of now, and that .270 opponents BA leaves a lot to be desired. He'd be a 4 or 5 on most teams, but he's the Nats ACE!
