August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Even if a team blocks the waiver from a contender, can't the Sox just dump the player on that team? Just getting Linebrink off the books would be a win-win situation. Yes. But the odds of someone claiming Linebrink are very slim. Of course I thought no one would claim Wagner.
August 31, 200916 yr What took Kenny so long? He should've made this announcement at least 3 days ago.
August 31, 200916 yr what AL team could possibly use Thome? The Rays perhaps? And the Giants could easily use Dye. I think Linebrink stays.
August 31, 200916 yr The White Sox are expected to want to pick up Jermaine Dye's $12MM mutual option for 2010, but Dye could turn it down and try the free agent market instead. per mlb rumors. where did they get that from? no way that would happen even if he was having a great year
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) what AL team could possibly use Thome? The Rays perhaps? And the Giants could easily use Dye. I think Linebrink stays. The way JD has been playing, Chico's Bail Bonds couldn't use him.
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) I'd give away Linebrink. Make it happen Kenny! Maybe if we offered Liney and one Chevy Pride girl some team would do it.
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) Maybe if we offered Liney and one Chevy Pride girl some team would do it. I would accept that trade personally. Who says money doesnt buy happiness.
August 31, 200916 yr Per Heyman's twitter: Konerko and Dotel are available, too. "an annoyed #chisox gm ken willliams has let teams know dye, konerko, thome, linebrink, dotel, others are available." http://twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) Maybe if we offered Liney and one Chevy Pride girl some team would do it. If Chevy drops their sponsorship like JR predicted, the Pride girl would need something to do. The bottom line is there is a 99.9% chance the Sox big names are going nowhere.
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) I'd give away Linebrink. Make it happen Kenny! So would KW.
August 31, 200916 yr Paulie should stay. #1. Who's gonna replace him next year if you get rid of Dye and Thome as well. #2. He's not having a bad year. #3. Harder to trade since he's 10/5 and under contract until 2011.
August 31, 200916 yr Is there a team stupid enough to trade for Linebrink? Who ever it would be would have to be desperate for pitching.
August 31, 200916 yr Well Konerko would actually have some kind of decent return I'd assume, but after trading Allen I don't see why we would do this..
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Per Heyman's twitter: Konerko and Dotel are available, too. "an annoyed #chisox gm ken willliams has let teams know dye, konerko, thome, linebrink, dotel, others are available." http://twitter.com/SI_JonHeyman Now you're talking to me baby, that I like!
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (Baines3 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Is there a team stupid enough to trade for Linebrink? Who ever it would be would have to be desperate for pitching. Houston still has Ed Wade as their GM, right?
August 31, 200916 yr QUOTE (Cowch @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Well Konerko would actually have some kind of decent return I'd assume, but after trading Allen I don't see why we would do this.. Tyler Flowers has 1b/DH written all over him.
August 31, 200916 yr Really starting to feel like a 'new era' of White Sox baseball is upon us. I doubt any of the guys mentioned get traded before the deadline tonight. But the writing is definitely on the wall for this off-season.
August 31, 200916 yr Odds are each of Dye, Thome, Linebrink, Dotel and Konerko already cleared waivers earlier this month.
September 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Odds are each of Dye, Thome, Linebrink, Dotel and Konerko already cleared waivers earlier this month. Almost guaranteed, otherwise this wouldn't have even come up. Not enough time if they hadn't already.
September 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) Tyler Flowers has 1b/DH written all over him. ....or maybe not. atleast not according to him flowers ''I've seen plenty of catchers on other teams, and I believe wholeheartedly that I'm better than them behind the plate.
September 1, 200916 yr I really think, and again I may be wrong, this news may be more about Peavy than anyone else. If the Sox win tonight, and the pitching match up is favorable, the Sox would be 5 back with a month to go. Not ideal, but not as crazy as some other times KW thought he had a chance. The Sox are holding off the Peavy announcement until after the game. He's not saying anything until the announcement. Has KW ever "given up" only 5 out with an ace about ready to enter the rotation? It makes no sense. Hopefully, I'm just very wrong, but if I'm not, I hope its nothing in Peavy's elbow that will threaten anything more than the rest of this season.
September 1, 200916 yr I'd be happy to see Dye, Thome, Konerko and Linebrink go. We need to get rid of the aging has beens and look to the future. What better time to do this now? (well at the trade deadline I guess)
September 1, 200916 yr if peavy has a elbow problem that requires surgery that would be the worst scenario in many many years.
September 1, 200916 yr QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) ....or maybe not. atleast not according to him flowers ''I've seen plenty of catchers on other teams, and I believe wholeheartedly that I'm better than them behind the plate. Unless he's outstanding defensively, it makes a lot of sense to move him away from behind the plate if his bat lives up to its billing. Guys like Mauer and Rodriquez were good defensively so moving them out didn't make as much sense. An average defensive catcher who can pile up huge numbers offensively should switch positions if possible.
