Supposition entirely. Pods did comeback and did very well for the Sox, but I am supposed to ignore that and count on Crisp coming back from injury?

You might actually be arguing against yourself here. Podesdnik was in the same situation when they picked him up last year and became a "sound financial move." Injury-plagued, poor-production, and signed for the minimum...that put him in position to be able to, at the least, exceed expectations. If Crisp does get acquired, it will be afor a small amount and you have to figure he can only be better than what he did last season. By definition, a low-risk move and financially reasonable.

That said, this wouldn't be the most exciting move if they made it. I suspect they desire better than that.

id much rather take a chance with crisp. and hes going to be a lot cheaper. when healthy,id take crisp over pods any day, esp. because of his defense over pods'

You'd hope though just last year our starting CF and leadoffman was DeWayne Wise so anything is possible.

I don't really care which one we sign at this point. Whomever is cheaper and comes with a shorter commitment would get my vote.

I guess when you frame it in the sense that Hudson/Flowers would have to be moved for a difference maker.......

.....picking from a pool of Crisp/Thome/Pods/Matsui isnt the worst thing in the world.

It might not be pure insanity to see AJP moved for salary space to get Matsui. KW seems to always make the shocking move. Plus Flowers is of age and one day or another you're going to have to get him familiar with this pitching staff if you're really built for a 3-4 year window as we stand.......and Blanco could be had thru free agency.

I would rather have Crisp than Pods...just for the fact that IIRC Crisp actually can play defense.

I would hate this signing if it meant moving Rios to RF. The only chance for Rios to be worth his salary is if he provides 280 with 25 homers while playing center field.

Not to mention the fact that Crisp's lack of arm strength makes him a poor fit for CF. He'd have to play left with Quentin moving to right.

Putting Tyler Flowers of the career 27 MLB innings behind the plate in charge of a rotation of Peavy-Buehrle-Floyd-Danks-Garcia would indeed be "shocking."

Crisp for Podsednik, Rios for Dye.

You aren't helping :P

How does arm strength fit into that UZR stat? Rios I'd say has been slightly better in CF but it does sorta vary.

It doesn't actively account for arm strength.

Crisp for Pods.....Rios for Dye........but then also Teahan for Getz .......and then what will in truth replace Thome?

There's still a possibility to end up roughly the same power wise and maybe even better BA/OBP wise. As would be the case with Matsui for Thome.

funny how so many people want pods resigned. he most likely going to regress offensively and his defense and base running is awful. id definatley take a chance on crisp. i think its a great possibility since we need a leadoff hitter and kenny always gets his guy

But, then we are assuming someone else is going to improve? It's all the roll of the dice in many cases

Agreed. Not going to happen nor should it

They're both huge ? offensively but you know you're getting better defense, better baserunning and a much lower price tag with Crisp.

THis is pretty much how I feel.

Frankly, I still think Thome replaces Thome.

If you also go deeper than that, Teahen is replacing Getz, but also Beckham is replacing Beckham for 1/2 the season and Fields for 1/2 the season. Rios and Crisp would be replacing Dye and Pods and Anderson and our Dewayne Wise leadoff experiment. There were a fair number of at bats that guys got last year for development that they failed to do anything with.

.... it's still an average to below-average lineup, nothing more.

great pick up if this is true,i never liked him when he was with the redsox, probably cause i dont like the bosoxs, his glove is excellent,i dont care what he hits.

coco/pods are about the same type of player; over 30, can't steal more than 30 base without getting caught 15+, no power, aweful arms. I'd rather bring back Pods or SPEND SOME MONEY and get somebody GOOD.
