Sox72
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Nyswaner wrote, Demme directed, and Hanks and Denzel starred in a very poignant film that peripherally was about that, yes. My contention is that Tom Hanks won in the end. Denzel finally accepted him. What greater victory than that?

FlaSoxxJim
Going to eat some ridiculously hot Panang curry this evening. Not sure what that makes me, other than maybe a masochist.

FlaSoxxJim
Dadgummit, my curry was mild and entirely unchallenging. Either the restaurant botched my order or else they gave it away to someone else who is probably a wimpering fetal ball right now.

FlaSoxxJim
xtc the most triumphant band and XTC the bulls*** teenybopper psychoactive drug are two very different things that should not be confused with one another.

Pants Rowland
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Who the heck was xtc? Very disappointed in your amnesia of a great band. I take it you were not a fan of alternative music when it was truly alternative (pre-Nirvana/Q101)?
FlaSoxxJim
Ugh, you break my heart. Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, and their coterie are the best thing to come out of England since the British Invasion. FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Tough to forget about Oranges and Lemons. Great stuff. Simpleton put that album over for the masses, but there is not a bad track on it. Nonsuch was less immediately accessible but it eventually became my preferred album. And AV2 Wasp Star. . . Gawd how amazing would that one be if Dave was still in the band.
Pants Rowland
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) ...if Dave was still in the band. Rumors circulated that he left for fiscal reasons.

Pants Rowland
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) Quitting for monetary reasons seems petty. Perhaps, but supposedly he was getting a reduced share of royalties due to lack of composition credits or something like that. We've seen things like that before - starts with money and turns into hurt feelings.
FlaSoxxJim
On the money on Dave Gregory. Andy's self-imposed exile from recording during his record contract squabble left him out in the cold. I love the Apple Venus albums, and I think it's some of their best writing ever, but Dave's arranging and multi-instrumental wizardry could have taken them to teh next level.
